Dear Friends,

I don't like to publish such a miserable and too emotional story.However, the writer herself as a reporter and professor has such an experience itself is an astonishing story. 

As a journalist and as a citizen of the People's Republic of China, I call on the local government, local police and local media as well as other media to care about this. A new Chinese saying is You Hua Hao Hao Shuo. Such violence seemed to happen in the miserable old days. Why does this still happen in a country which is striving for justice, legality and harmonious society?

Shouldn't we reflect that we should have a massive shift from current only for money, only for power mentality to a more ethical, civil and harmonious attitude towards development? Without social justice and human's basic rights, what's the use of development?

When the authorities treat reporters or lawyers as their enemies and beat them, it is a very dangersous and frightening situation.It means someone in this society enjoys a priority which nobody can check or has the right to know. This society can't be called a civil society or a society with civilization.

This is a comment based on the letter from Ai Xiaoming who has experienced such a frighting and unbelievable experience that she and a lawyer were beaten up because they went to investigate a case about village election. 

Village election has been conducted at China's smallest unit, village. But many stories and news show that there is still many flaws and injustice in it. 

Also at this basic Chinese unit, that a lot of barbarious action-violence, use of gangs and conflicts took place

due to the occupation of farmers land. From this story and from many stories I have heard from my home village, I think there is an urgent need to deal with farmers land issue. Because this issue is fundamental for the success of China's reform, economic development and stability. 

Through 27 years of single-minded and hard development, farmers in the end find that their land becomes smaller and smaller, their jobs are at danger and where will be their destinations? Without an answer or solution for this issue, stability and security is still a questionable issue.

Therefore, to promote sustainable development, identify what we need and what we want, limit our unlimited desires, seek a lofty sentiment will be the bright future for China.
