PROGRESS

I can accept that with approaching senility some of my skills and knowledge must atrophy, but it really gravels my craw that the many skills and much knowledge that I continue to possess in abundance have become obsolete.

I think I know now how those making buggy whips must have felt as they contemplated the coming of the automoble. They retained the skills and the knowledge; they just didn't have the buggies.

Certainly it makes sense to get rid of old stuff that isn't needed anymore, but it also makes sense to not fix what ain't broken, especially when the changes leave old country boys like me confused and disoriented.

I feel somehow betrayed, as if the world had changed some time ago while I was nodding off. The new terms are a tad more descriptive, although one would have to be fairly obtuse to need an explanation of the old terms. The new terms are of course completely ungrammatical.

It's bad enough that arbitrary verbal changes have left much of my vocabulary obsolete, but technology has done the same to my hard-won skills, and I do mean hard-won.

I suppose there are worse reasons for retaining obsolete knowledge than enjoying the ego trip of having it. Polishing the ol ego is fun, and it doesn't make acid rain or hurt the ozone. I am glad that I know so many things that have become obsolete, and now I find that at my age, the same has become of me.

SATISFACTION

Sheriff Hupp:

This is in regards to the conversation we had on August 12, 2005, on the Sheriffs office porch in which you made the statement that all I ever do is complain, and that I am never satisfied. So let’s see what satisfaction the Tyler County Sheriffs office has given me!

The first drug deal offered me in Tyler County was at the Floating Axehead Store in Shirley WV. Present at the time was one of your deputies who stood by as I was offered marijuana, then cocaine, in the course of the unsolicited offer of drugs it was explained to me that the dealer was protected by the sheriff’s office and if I dealt with the right persons I could get what ever I wanted. You had a problem the first time we met, with the fact that I carry tobacco in a plastic bag.

When three assailants tried to assault me on my front porch your deputy informed me that if I pressed charges that he would arrest me, as he had three people who would testify that I had assaulted them. In this exchange the deputy discounted numerous witnesses to the crime who validated my account.

When I reported the theft of cattle and identified the thieves, your deputy was incommunicado for two weeks. When I pressed the matter he informed me that I should have let them keep the cattle, and he would only take a report of property damage.

When my horse was shot your deputy first refused to respond, then when informed that I would call the state police he claimed jurisdiction and came to the scene. He never collected the bullets or the other physical evidence at the scene. He did inform me that if I pursued this matter he would list it as a misdemeanor and no one would be charged before the statute ran out.

When an assailant hid himself with a firearm on my property in order to ambush me, your deputy refused to take action stating he was not going to arrest his relatives on my statement, and did not take statements from the wittiness or collect the photos.

When I found evidence of an attempt to poison my cattle your deputy did retrieve and the dispose of this evidence. He determined that the evidence wasn’t identifiable.

When I was assaulted at my home your deputy made numerous threats to me before finally taking my statement. In the course of the investigation he did on another occasion make threats to the safety of my wife, and what could happen to my property if I was jailed.

When I was present at a neighbor’s break-in your deputy did try to intimidate, and threaten the victims not to press ahead with the charges. During this investigation your deputy made threatening remarks that involved me.

When I was shot at in my yard, you and your deputy did not collect the shell casings or bullets, nor the unopened and empty bottles of beer left at the scene. Your deputy filed this as a shooting by my house. This was an attempt on my life.

When my barn was set on fire you and your deputy did not conduct any crime scene investigation nor collected any of the evidence left at the scene. Your deputy then on three different occasions has stated to you in front of wittiness that he never received the fire Marshals report. The fact is he received the report within 48 hrs. after the fire. He also falsely reported a statement in his report about the fire.

In response to the numerous threats against my life your office has taken a laid back attitude that has jeopardized my life, stating that these are just good ol’ boys who don’t mean any harm.

When I asked for my personal property to be returned, it was returned totally destroyed, when I asked why I was informed that the state crime lab had done it. This fact is present I have looked at the crime labs report and my property was not destroyed by them, it was destroyed while in the position of the Tyler County Sheriffs office in your evidence locker at which time even the evidence bags were destroyed.

On three occasions I have called 911 and asked for the state police only to be informed that 911 was for the sheriffs office only, then your staff hung up on me.

So now we come to your statement that I am never satisfied! Your office has in the last four years never solved a crime committed against my wife or myself. Your office has never made an arrest for crimes committed against me or my wife in the last four years. Your office has never collected evidence at the scene of any crimes committed against my wife or myself. Your office has on numerous dates actually violated the rights of my wife and me.

So now when I ask to file a complaint against your deputies, you say that you won’t allow me to do this. Well get this straight I have the right to file any complaints I want, this is guaranteed by law.

I personally do not care if you are tired of hearing my name, I intend to pursue these matters until the criminals are tried for their crimes, and if your department is involved then I will pursue that thru the courts also.

“SATISFACTION IS NOT WHAT YOUR OFFICE HAS EVER GIVEN ME”

So now you say that your office will give me no law enforcement, is this some kind of "JOKE"? You have never provided any protection for my wife or myself. Well I hope you like the reply, and understand that this letter was also sent to every mail box in TYLER COUNTY WEST VIRGINIA.
