That's it! It's over for Canada
'Stephen Harper and his Conservative Party [that is to say, the Canadian wing of the U.S. Republican party] won national elections Monday and ended 13 years of Liberal rule, giving Canada a leader who was expected to move the country to the right on social and economic issues and bolster ties with the United States.' (SOURCE)
With a vote of only 36 percent, the Conservatives will form a government. With a combined anticonservative vote of 47 percent the Liberals and the NDP are out. (Daily Kos: 'Combined, the Canadian left, including the Greens, drew over 52 percent of the vote. And that's not including the Bloc, which is very leftist as well.') How does that outcome resemble democracy? (SOURCE)
Unfortunately, this is what happens when you have a badly-designed electoral system. As this angry Canadian voter points out, 'I live in only one of four "democracies" in the world who still use "first past the post" rather than a more proportional electoral system.' (SOURCE)
Allow me to manifest my one strong streak of Aussie patriotism, and point out the virtues of the Australian preferential voting system. If you've never heard about it, you can read about it here.
The major advantage of the preferential system, to cite this page, is that 'it ensures that only a candidate with the support of an absolute majority of the electorate can win, eliminating the possibility of minority winners. Put another way, the winning candidate is the "most preferred" or "least disliked" candidate.'
If Canada had had such a system in place, the Conservatives would have had to have staged a coup to take over the government.
Like Clinton and Blair, Harper is another 'Bilderberger pick.' Yes, Harper attended the 2003 meeting of the Bilderbergers in Versailles, at a time when he hadn't even been elected leader of the Conservative Party yet. Damn, those Bilderbergers know how to pick 'em. (SOURCE)
One thing left to comment on. Where do all the Americans who moved to Canada over the last few years in search a saner society go now?

PREDICTION: Harper has come and one day he may go, but the Conservative Party will NEVER leave government. With three years to rig the system from within, and with plenty of help from experienced Republican manipulators from south of the border, expect a prefabricated Tory landslide in 2008.
