Muggy

Mood: Excited

Ugh. It's been raining all day. I don't look forward to letting the pups out when I get home. I'm sure the front hard is a huge puddle by now. DH said it was getting there when he was on his way off to work.

I'm so excited. After our little knitting get together with some co-workers the other day, I think the knitting bug has caught on. I had one of our supervisors e-mail me to let me know that she has 11 children at her campus that would like to learn to knit. I had another campus e-mail me today with 4 children that would like to learn. Gonna have my hands full, I guess.

Do you ever get upset by the sizes of garments today? I like a lot of sweaters on the Adriafil site, but none of them are large enough for me. What is up with skinny Italian people (I can talk....my DH is Italian.)? How can they have such famous food, but still be so thin? I WANT their secret!

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

As I promised, pictures of WIP's and FO's.

My first-ever pair of socks:

No, my feet aren't deformed. I have a second pair of socks on underneath them.

Here's the front of the sweater I'm working on:

And a close up of the stitch pattern:

And the cast on and beginning rib of my second set of socks:

Excuses, excuses

Today was a little better than yesterday. My boss came up with an excuse for her attitude these past few weeks. It seems as if she has been regulating her own doses of her happy pills. She didn't think she needed to take them as perscribed. Well, we aren't using our noggins are we? Hopefully, she's gotten a little more sense. Now it's just other people in the office annoying me. We are trying to implement a sign language program within our program. I attempted to do this a year ago, but no one was on board. Now another girl is heading it up. I harbor no ill will toward her. In fact, I even offered my services if she needs them. Well, my co-worker (an English gent) set up for this girl to give a presentation at a campus. She doesn't feel comfortable doing this. He was discussing it with her on the phone. I told him to tell her that if she needed my help, that I was free to help her. I told him this seval times, and he never once mentioned it to her. UUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH.

As you can see from above, the projects are moving right along. I thought about attempting a zipper cardigan once I finish the current sweater, but I don't know if I even want to begin attempting going anywhere near a zipper.

My problem is finding patterns that will fit me. I'm a busty girl who isn't the tallest of creatures. It is difficult to find patterns in larger sizes. I'm glad to see that a lot of the knitting magazines are including larger size patterns or larger versions of their patterns. It widens the selection.

I'm going to add a section of the blogs that I read. I just have to narrow it down to a few. I know of several that I check on a daily or semi-daily basis

Mood: Agitated

Grrrr. Did you ever have one of those days when you just felt like staying home and not seeing anyone? Today is one of those days. I've got a meeting with a group of people I'm creating a PowerPoint presentation for. I asked that we please have a rough draft of the presentation done by the middle of December. Well here it is the middle (almost end) of January and the presentation isn't even finished. They haven't even run through it, and they have to present it on February 9th. C'mon people. I just don't feel like meeting with them today.

I also have a 2 hour meeting after work this evening. Half of our entire staff will be attending. My supervisor and co-worker are not going to be available to be there, so they have asked me to head the meeting; however, they did not tell me what the meeting was about, who was presenting, what information I needed to let the staff know. Why don't people think of these things before the actual time?

I'm also disappointed at the comments section of this blog. You can only comment if you are a member of the blogigo community. That Sucks! However, you can leave comments in the Guestbook. But I think that the link is kinda hard to see, so I may move it. Well, better get going to the meeting from hell.

**Almost 4 hours later **

Well, we didn't get very far in our meeting. They want to add and change several slides. We have to have a printout of the presentation sent to the copier's no later than a week from today. These people need to get their acts together. It's mainly one person, my supervisor. She informed me a few hours ago that she will be at the meeting tonight, so I don't have to be in charge anymore. Thanks for the notice.

I've found another two-needle sock pattern to work on. Socks are so satisfying. Can I say that even though I've only knitted one pair? Speaking of that pair, one is MIA. I was looking for them so that I could take a picture and whomp! it's gone. I even searched the old sure thing of being under the couch, no avail. I've just got to pick out some yarn to work with.

I like working on the sweater, but sometimes you need a shorter gratification time, or even a smaller project to take with you places. The socks do both of those. Hopefully, I will begin truckin' right along on the sweater though. I can hardly wait to see how it turns out.

New Beginnings

by: psy

Mood: Uplifted
Listening to: The voices in my head

Hmmmm....New year, new things. This is the first time I have ever blogged. Hopefully I will be interesting and continue with it as I go along.

I guess I should start with what this blog is all about. The Tangled Web. That could mean all sorts of things I guess. Mainly it will probably be about knitting. Yes, I do knit. I am a 28-year-old knitter from Texas. Go figure. I've got a wonderful husband and an adorable 21-month-old little girl.

I started knitting about 5 or 6 years ago. I was teaching some of my co-workers to knit last Friday and they asked me how I started. I don't really remember how I started. I just remember thinking that it would be nice to knit some baby blankets for some of the people I worked with who were expecting. I jumped online (gotta loooooove the Internet) and taught myself how to knit. I stuck with blankets for a while. I even made a wedding sampler afghan for my best friend as a wedding present. Then I made the leap to sweaters. Now I didn't ever do swatches to begin with. I mean, I was making blankets. Swatches don't really count there, do they? Soooooo, I made a sweater for my husband. Needless to say it was waaaay too big. It's still lying around the house somewhere, unworn.

So I put away the knitting for a while. Then this past year, I got bitten by the bug again. I started on a pair of socks. Two needle socks because I dread using DPN's. The first sock actually fit. Of course I made it out of cheap acrylic to see if I could actually do it. The second sock turned out well until I sewed the seam. i got off somewhere, so I will have to cut it apart and re-seam it. Just haven't had time yet.

With a somewhat successful pair of socks under my belt and my confidence boosted a bit, I decided to try a poncho. My sister was looking at ponchos, but they were so expensive. I told her that I would make her one if she bought the yarn. Again, cheap acrylic. I set to work making the Very Harlot Poncho. It took me about a week. Turned out pretty good. If I have time, I may post a pic.

With two successful projects under my thumb, I undertook another project. A co-worker asked me to make a hat for her with dreadlocks coming out of the top. I found the Dreaded Cap. I made the hat out of a chunky multicolor yarn and the dreadlocks out of a brown acrylic. The hat is very much loved by my friend and everyone who sees it.

The response to the hat prompted me to see how many of my co-workers wanted to know how to knit. Several of them were interested, so we held a little get-together. They are all excited about learning how to knit. I began them on small projects like sachets and bean bags. We'll see how the next meeting goes.

My current projects include a Mary Jane sweater for myself and a scarf for my possible-to-be sister-in-law. I am also looking at making another set of socks, and a tennis vest or something similar for my DH.

I have made a vow to myself to try to make one item for everyone for Christmas this year. I don't know if this will work. But we'll see.
