Victory over Death
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 1 Cor. 15:55
On driving through the town of Dumfries in Scotland my attention was attracted to a sign in the window of a shop. It said, “Discounted Life Policies.” In these days of so much life insurance, this did not seem too unusual until I noticed the significance of where the shop was located. It was in the grounds of a cemetery. Whilst it seemed a little odd to mix life with death, it none the less is a stark reminder to us that the grave holds no fear for the believer. We have the promise of heaven through believing in Christ; death has no sting and life can truly be found in the midst of death. --Brian Powlesland
Clouds and darkness round us press; would we have one sorrow less?
All the sharpness of the cross, all that tells the world is loss,
Death and darkness and the tomb, pain us only til He come!
