Handling the Word
Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you.
Deuteronomy 4:2
A solemn warning to everyone who handles the Scriptures, both on the page and on the platform. To tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth was never more crucial than with the Word of God. How many false notions have arisen from someone’s “extended interpretation” of what the Bible actually says? Ezra the scribe read distinctly, gave the sense, and caused his listeners to understand the reading (Nehemiah 8:8). The danger lies in anything more or less.

Master, speak! And make me ready, when Thy voice is truly heard,
With obedience glad and steady, still to follow every word.
