Delusions
I used to think George W. Bush was funny. Then he actually was elected and transformed into the most lethal lame duck in the world. I wondered why the americans believe that the mantle of the presidency does not change a mere man into a sage superman. The most recent example all should remember is slick willy Clinton.
I asked an american friend this. He is a good, kind and educated person and yet a republican, who carries a huge burden. ( He married a democrat and, unlike Romeo, has to live with the consequences. ) He told me that the president knows things that we do not and makes his decisions accordingly.
This elevates him into something special. This worried me. He does not read, watches TV when not choking on pretzels and is surrounded by dubious advisors with links to big business. If he makes decisions based on what they tell him we are in trouble. It is like letting a contractor draw up the specifications for work he is tendering for. (eg Main Spec: tender will be owarded only to companies whose chief engineer has one blue eye and one brown one.)
My friend was upset by this. He insisted that the presidents decisions represent the will of the american people. When I muttered something about the soldiers in Iraq making sure their wills were up to date he refused to continue the discussion.
Oh well I suppose the all powerful market will decide. If it becomes too expensive to rebuild and extract the oil, even with usa taxpayers support , the president will be advised to look elsewhere.
I wish Mr Bush no ill and hope he sleeps well. No point in going golfing without a solid 12 hours. He plays a lot as he knows the country is in good hands. I just wish I knew who they are. Perhaps that is a secret only presidents are privy to.
