Killers Concert in Vegas Was a Huge Hit

by: mantis

I would like to begin by saying this was the best concert I have ever been to.  The atmosphere was just right, the accoustics were heaven, and the Killers were on Fire.  They Played most of their album Hot Fuss with some additional unreleased tracks.  The Joint @the Hardrock is a great venue.  Personally this was my first time and I was thoroughly impressed.

Up in Smoke

by: mantis

Around 12:00 Pm last night, a fire erupted at the old Phi Delt Fraternity house at the University of Southern California.  No one was hurt, but reports show that the entire house is gutted and the roof has collapsed.  Several rumors are circulating around 28th street as to the true cause of the fire.  Crowds formed around the residence as Fire fighters bravely entered the burning home.  With chainsaws blarring, this was an event that students would RUN from the 90 to see.  With Phi Delt's charter coming up for renewal this spring, after being off the row for nearly four year, there is some suspicion of foul play.  More to come when details are released.

Pope's Death: Morn or Rejoice

by: mantis

I am a devout catholic and have been since a very young age.  I was one of those who was an Alter server til the end of High School.  But i cannot understanding the morning that is going on around me.  Yes the Pope, a source of inspiration and spiritual guidance, has passed on.  Yet, he is now eternal at home with God.  That is nothing to mourn.  He was ready to go and God knowingly took him for his own.  What we should be doing is rejoicing at the thought of a new Pope with new goals.  More than anything I am excited for the tradition of choosing a new Pope.  I have never witnessed it before and the ritual is beautiful and dating back hundreds and hundreds of years, called Conclave.  At which time, all of the cardinals conviene and do not leave the meeting room until a successor has been chosen.  Every night a fire is built within the meeting room.  If the smoke that comes from the smoke stack is white then the world knows that they have yet to chose a new Pope. However, when the fire burns black the congregation of Cardinals have unanimously decided the new Pope.  Foor Possible Succesors See  This !

Steak House of Your Dreams

by: mantis

This one is for all the guys out there who need to take a break from their yappy wives, girlfriends, or significant others.  Del Frisco's, located just one mile west of the strip on Flamingo, offers the classiest eating in town.  Surrounded by dark wood and a classic bar, Del Frisco's offers that picturesque steakhouse experience, not to mention a cigar room with live jazz on select nights during the week.  Even more curious is Del Frisco's one of a kind James Bond table that when one pushes a button hidden in one of the books of the bookshelf the 007 soundtrack comes on and the table before transforms into a quite masterful wine rack.  Each bottle is on of a kind engraved with a color copy of the original motion picture poster.  If all of this doesn't tickle your fancy, the meat will.  Unlike most restraunts, Del Frisco's has rules for eating, among them "never cut the bread, we break bread here."  The atmosphere is perfect for any business dinner or a night out with the boys.

Personal Recommendations:  Fried Oysters, Shrimp Sampler, House Salad with crumbled bleu cheese( the cheese is to die for), and the Prime Ribeye (hands done the best steak that I have ever had, this makes Mortons or McCormick look like the Sizzler)

Drinks:  Espresso Martini (The best in town, if you need an energy boost and hate red bull, like I do, this will do it for you)

Inside the MGM-Mandalay Merger

by: mantis

Well it seems that although the Nevada gaming board has approved the transaction, there is more red tape preventing the merger.  Due to Mandalay's holding of a casino in Illinois, MGM must obtain a gaming license in that state.  Unfortunately, the pace is slow and the state seems unwilling to grant such a license.  More to come....

Seeking a sushi experience away from the strip

by: mantis

Sumo Sushi, located on Green Valley Parkway and Sunset, is located just 15 minutes southeast of the strip and offers a more locals style dinning.  Without all the hub bub of the casinos and white legged tourists, Sumo stands out as a relaxing night out.  The sushi is great, boasting a unique style of japanese, american, and even mexican cuisine.  Dont forget to check out their special rolls, they are some of the best in Las Vegas.  My personal recommendations are the "EX-WIFE" roll and the "Screaming Orgasm." The "EX-WIFE" is one of those japanese and mexican blends, half of a jalepeno shell filled with crab and then temporad to perfection and to top it off a little bit of sweet eel sauce.  A unique name for such a great roll.  And now for the big "O,"  this creation starts with seared ahi tuna and is topped with a spicy mayonaise vinegarette.  Ce Bon! So check it out, you wont be let down.

In addition to all of the drunken fun that one could have in this beautiful Mexican getaway, there are several amazing golf courses in the area.  Most with beach front vantage points, these courses offer a superior golfing experience.  Check out this website for more information.

Spring Break

by: mantis

Sorry for the delay in posts.  I was living it up in Cabo or as much as you can in Mexico.  For a change I thought I would give some critiques on Cabo day and night life.  The days were pretty standard on the beautiful beaches in Cabo.  A walk down the clean sandy beach meeting a crystalline ocean was always a great way to start the morning(or afternoon should I say).  The hot spot for all the wild spring breakers was a nice little beach front bar cleverly entitled "The Office."  With great happy hour offers all day long, The Office was the place to be for any money-starved university man.  Two for ones meant a drink for you and the beautiful blonde sitting next to you.  Usually after a rough day in the sun, nap time would roll around and bodies would instinctively flock to their cabins like the salmon of Capistrano.  Day turned to night, and a new breed of fun was unleashed.  With a multitude of clubs and bars in the area, you were sure to find beautiful people whereever you went.  Although some enjoyed the crowed floors of Squid Roe, I preferred the less crowded scenes where ordering a drink didn't mean knocking over three guys to get to the bar and waiting fifteen minutes to be served.  Nonetheless, Squid Roe did have much to offer those wild Spring Breakers.  Nearly every night it was like an orgy-fest on the dance floor with girls letting "loose" and drunken idiots throwing out ridiculous "game".  If this is not your seen I suggest "Roxx" or "Cabo Wabo" as a less eye-awakening experience.  On the whole it was a great trip. More to come.

The New Forum Shops @Caesar's Palace

by: mantis

Three new stories of shops, boutiques, and great restraunts capture all that is the new Forum shops.  Many new European designers have migrated to Las Vegas, opening their first location at the new Forum Shops.  If you are not a shopper,  the food is to die for.  If you like sushi, Sushi Roku is the best place in town.  Located on the third story of the new section, Sushi Roku boasts a great sushi and fusion menu.  If this is not enough, the view is magnificent.  On a more personal note, this will be the last blog for some time because Spring Break officially starts today at 4:00PM.  Enjoy the Rays!!

MGM-Mandalay Merger

by: mantis

Well it looks like there is some red tape that needs to be cleared up before the ball can get rolling for MGM.  Due to a Mandalay owned casino in Illonois, MGM must obtain a license in the state before the merger can go through.  In addition, there are several other government agencies that have yet to "okay" the merger.   More info on the way.

Skylofts

by: mantis

Sorry everyone for the gap in blogs, I have had a busy schedule lately.  Some interesting new accomodations have been introduced by MGM.  Luxurios new Skylofts are being offered on the 30th floor.  Excellent panoramic vistas, hard wood floors, and one two or three bedroom lofts are the new way to do Vegas in style.  The Las Vegas Review Journal refers to them as "an urban apartment in New York City."

Trump Arrives

by: mantis

Trump is finally coming to Vegas. With property adjacent to the Frontier and nearby the new Steve Wynn project, it is a sure hit. Commercials have just been released promoting the beautiful new Wynn Resorts. The commercial features Steve Wynn at the top of his resort with a fade out to the whole strip. On a personal note, I believe it is quite interesting how Wynn decided to permanently brand his name on the Vegas strip instead of the initial name Le Rev (Pretter Arrogant, huh?)
