Ibiza - Songs und Titel - essential Tunes of Ibiza
It was always going to be a thankless task picking 10 esssential tunes that have 'made' Ibiza but we like a good scrap.
Cast your eyes over our favourite 10 then fight it out amongst yourselves over the tunes we 'forgot' to put in there. Gloves on... Ding ding... Round 1...
1. Stardust 'Music Sounds Better With You'Released in the summer of '98 when the island was arguably at it's peak. Some would say that it simply couldn't get much better. Do you agree?
2. Energy 52 'Cafe Del Mar'
A track not only made for Ibiza but totally inspired by it. No. 1 in many trance DJs boxes.
3. Spiller 'Groovejet' In terms of commercial success they don't come much bigger than this. It made a star out of Sophie Ellis Bextor and stopped Posh from nabbing the number one spot. Hallelujah!
4. Mory Kante 'Yeke Yeke'
A Balearic orignal back in 1988 that was revisited in 1995 courtesy of Hardfloor's thumping remix. Who knows what it is about? Who cares? Still sounds brand new 10 years on.
5. Missing 'Everything But The Girl'This was Big in Ibiza before the phrase 'Big in Ibiza' was big. Possibly the tune and the remix that opened up the commercial highway.
6. Kings Of Tomorrow 'Finally'
In '91 KOT's label mate Roger Sanchez topped the charts but this work of genius was the tune all the DJs truly loved.
7. Moloko 'Sing It Back'Boris Dlugosch did the magic that made this work on the floor whilst Rosin's lush vocal sweeps over you like a warm breeze on Salinas.
8. Ultra Nate 'Free'
If Ibiza stands for anything it stands for freedom and no other chorus has ever said it as emphatically. "You're free.... to do what you want to do."
9. Tori Amos 'Professional Widow'It's all about the bassline and Armand Van Helden's bass ripped through the summer of '95 like a tornado.
10. Josh Wink 'Higher State Of Consciousness'
Acid tweekin, brain twisting breaks that worked on any floor.
