Poem by Charles Montonya
To Drive Drunk
I went to a party,
To see some friends I knew.
I had already been drinking,
But I only had a few.
I told my friends I’m leaving,
They called my wife to pick me up.
I drank some more Jack Daniels,
And a chaser from a cup.
Then I felt pretty sleepy,
So I hurried to the car.
I took off pretty easy,
Seemed like driving wasn’t hard.
I dozed for just a second,
When I woke to my surprise.
I was in a accident,
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I wasn’t feeling anything,
Seemed like pain had no meaning.
But my shoulder was pulled out of joint,
And I had internal bleeding.
I walked to the other car,
I found out it was my wife.
She was coming to pick me up,
And now I took her life.
Then I was arrested,
They gave me fourty years to life.
For driving under the influence,
And the killing of my wife.
So before you drink and drive,
The party your at is more fun.
Then transforming your car,
Into a loaded gun.
