Recommended documentary DVDs

In no particular order:

An Inconvenient Truth

I never realised that Al Gore was concerned about global warming way before running for President.  It's a crime that the presidency was stolen from him.  I admire him for what he's trying to do.  Despite some sentimentality in the DVD, it's an excellent documentary about the real concerns of global warming.   Go here http://www.climatecrisis.net/ for more info.

Control Room

A fascinating look inside the Arab news network, Al Jazeera.  It's always interesting to get the other side of the story - something we westerners rarely get.

The Corporation

Multinational corporations are the equivalent of psychopaths, pure and simple.

No Logo

Excellent documentary based on Naomi Klein's book about big brands and the destruction of consumer choice.

Supersize Me

If you haven't seen it and are still eating McDonalds, watch it.  It should put you off junkfood.

Fahrenheit 9/11

Criticised mainly because it was made by Michael Moore, whom people seem to love to hate.  Regardless, he raises some good points and still unanswered questions.

Return to the Land of Wonders

I've discussed this movie before here:

Well worth watching.

Later this month I am looking forward to seeing Michael Moore's latest piece about the Amreican Health Care system, called "Sicko". I would strongly recommend a movie called "Good Night, an Good Luck". Ostensibly it is a biography of Ed Murrow, the great American broadcaster of the 1940's and 1950's but his speech at the end of the movie is eerily prescient. Another move I strongly recommend is "Why We Fight". At the start of the movie they show Eisenhower's speech as he left the White House at the end of his term, warning against "the military-industrial complex".

I also just finished reading a book by Jimmy Carter (former US president) called "Palestine:Peace not Apartheid" - scary stuff!

I am 60 years old - frankly I could not give a damn what state the world is in when my grandchildren are my age.

Because these channels tell the unvarnished truth (including the breathtaking incompetence of the US goverment and that oaf G W Bush) they tend to be very unpopular with many of the people who still believe GWB is actually anything other than a war criminal.

PLEASE watch this wonderful programme about the total incompetence of the Iraq invasion
