A good spell of much needed rain on Sunday has revived the plot a bit.

I am really chuffed by my tomatoes



Its my first attempt and they have had no feed, watered once weekly and no trimming of sideshoots.They are fruiting pretty heavily and still flowering. I am hoping for a bumper crop. They are a bush variety and have turned into a sprawling mass but so far looking healthy.I guess the taste will be the proof.

I was also quite surprised with the lettuce and spinach which I put in a week past on Sunday (17/07/2005).I watered them in pretty well and have really left them to it since.I expected them to have either died or be slug ravaged but they seem to be coming on strong.


The two rows furthest away are little Gem lettuce,closest is the perpetual spinach.The bush on the left is some more tomatoes.

Lastly my Heritage Beans are podding :D



I doubt the crop will be huge but I will get enough for a few  meals and some spare to sow next year.I will also keep a few for swaps.

Camera Quality id off the phone again, I must remember to take the digi up next time.

I had some help today from my father in law who very kindly cleared a lot of my paths.I need to find some way of controlling the weeds coming through the gaps.
Whilst Graham done the paths I dug over the top bed.I am hoping to get some late peas in there next weekend.The weather was very warm and my Heritage beans were looking splendid with the small red flowers appearing.Mike gave me a bag full of beans which had cropped on his plot so I dug up a few spuds and we had them all for lunch, very tasty.The beans are quite sweet when you eat them raw and delicious when cooked.



Rox and Lady Cosmos (from allotments4all forum) here is a picture of the beans flowering.Hope you get some success growing them as they taste lovely.

Saturday :

Borrowed the petrol strimmer and went to town on the high weeds that have been going for it on the plot.It took about 30 mins to strim most of them down and then another couple of hours to get them cleared up and into the compost bin.I removed te tarpaulkin from the top bed and covered what was left of the weeds.Hopefully come autumn I should have an easier job of clearing what is left out,Cannot wait for that....
