Working a Job You Hate.........

Dear Diary,                                                                         July 31, 2006

Random thoughts:

Why do we feel we have to work, even if we hate our job?  Does hating someone at work make you hate your job?  Does hating certain aspects of your job make the rest of it suck?  Can you half hate your job, yet still enjoy working?

I know the reason I work a job I don't always like is based on the fact that it pays pretty good, I have lots of debt and bills to pay so I need to work and earn money.  Also I feel like I am obligated to work.  Is this true for many people?  I mean I know a lot of people who don't have to work,  but feel like they are obligated to,  like they should work, it's the Proper thing to do.  I would love to stay home all day, and not work, spend my days doing whatever I want, but at the same time, I would feel lazy and worthless, like I am obligated to work and if I don't I will be less of a person.

Umm...okay, enough rambling for now!

Friday......

Dear Diary,                                                            July 28, 2006

Well,  I can't believe that another month is almost gone,  soon it will be August...we are approaching fall.  Crazy, time flies so fast once you pass age 18, until then though it seems like you'll never be 18, never be 21, never actually be free, be an adult, be able to choose what to do with your life....then it hits, you move out, or you go to college, whatever, but your free you can now legally buy cigarettes, even though you probably don't smoke, but you can buy them.  Then you realize 18 isn't all that grand, where the hell is 21, then bam...before you know it your 21, then 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 35....where the hell did the time go.  One minute your 21 partying it up and living life, the next your getting married, buying a house, a car, having your 2.5 children and getting the family dog and white picket fence.  What happened to all that time?  Did you drink it all away, or did it just go by while you were busy trying to survive,  you probably were spending most of it working to live or living to work,  however you prefer.  It seems that is how society works today, you have no choice but to work, but even then you don't ever really "make it", your always just living to work, waiting for that next paycheck so you can pay bills, loans that you took out for college or buying a car, and groceries.  Once the kids come, you don't have spare money for yourself....your wearing the same Moo Moo you've had for years, and your kids are wearing nikes because they won't be seen in public in Wal-Mart specials.  Where does the time go?

Thanks for the comments, I working in cubicle/office land, can understand the need to make sure that the pink hole punch is safe from the rest of the weirdos in the office!  Okay, thanks Diddums for sharing...and to Shellbug for sharing her random thought as well...I choose dangle earrings!

Dear Diary,                                                        July 27, 2006

Well it's Thursday, that means 1 1/2 more days until my weekend...I can't wait even though there is nothing exciting planned.  However discussions with co-workers yesterday got me thinking about answering the telephone...Why do people feel obligated to answer the telephone every time it rings no matter what they are doing?  They could be in the shower, using the restroom facilities, cooking, cleaning, talking business with someone else, it doesn't seem to matter what you are doing, a phone rings and you answer it.

Okay, case in point, yesterday I was discussing a project with a co-worker in their cubicle and their phone rang, instead of letting it go to voicemail they cut me off mid-sentence to answer the phone, it was a personal call and they were talking about what to make for dinner,  blah blah blah, meanwhile I am standing there in the cubicle wondering if I should wait or leave.  It was extremely frustrating because I was right there in their cubicle talking and they have voicemail, if it was important shouldn't the other party leave a message?  I never answer my phone at work if someone else is in my cubicle, unless we are just bullshitting, but if it's business its business and the phone can wait.

Another example from yesterday, got a text message from a friend, ,she was getting divorced that day (signing the papers, etc...).  Well I called her back when I got the message to hear the dirt, she answers the phone in a whisper...says "I gotta go, I'm getting divorced right now, call you later".  Okay, so rather than letting her phone go to voicemail, she answers it while getting divorced....WTF?  I don't get it...especially now with caller ID, I don't answer the phone most of the time, unless it is someone I know, I figure if its that important they will leave a message on our answering machine.  What is our obsession with a telephone...maybe it makes us feel important that someone is calling us, or makes us feel as though someone cares, even though it is most likely a telemarketer or bill collector?  What is it?

How does someone staple a finger?

Dearest Diary,                                                           July 26, 2006

Okay, so obviously  I have way too much time to thing and have come up with an entire entry based on staplers and stapling things.  How and why did I come up with this, well I watched Office Space last night and I went off on a tangent thinking about it and so I had to share with you my lovely diary.

Okay so I actually used to work with a guy just like this, he is now retired.  It just makes me wonder how some people get attached to non-living items like a stapler.  However I do understand the stapler thing a bit....hear me out...

1) some staplers constantly jam

2) some staplers only fit certain size staples and not standard staples

3) some have really cool colors!

and 4) quality is something to look for if your a paper pusher

Okay, so I have spent way too much time coming up with this crap huh!  But being a paper pusher I do understand the need to have quality staples and staplers, or else you have to use paper clips and those other clippy things, or the clam clip things, which just aren't the same.

So has anyone ever stapled thier finger out there?  CUrious, ,as I never have stapled my own finger, I have stapled my shirt (it had big ol sleeves on it) on accident to a stack of papers...the sleeve got mixed up in it and I just stapled it all together that was fun!  Shoulda started a new fashion trend with that one!  Anyways, back to the original question here, I just don't get how someone can staple their own finger...I mean first off you gotta have small fingers to fit under some of the stapler heads anyway, and then you are staring right at the damn thing while using the stapler...how did you "miss" seeing your finger in the path?  I just don't get it...someone please explain!
