Mood: Inquisitive
Thanks for the comments, I working in cubicle/office land, can understand the need to make sure that the pink hole punch is safe from the rest of the weirdos in the office! Okay, thanks Diddums for sharing...and to Shellbug for sharing her random thought as well...I choose dangle earrings!
Dear Diary, July 27, 2006
Well it's Thursday, that means 1 1/2 more days until my weekend...I can't wait even though there is nothing exciting planned. However discussions with co-workers yesterday got me thinking about answering the telephone...Why do people feel obligated to answer the telephone every time it rings no matter what they are doing? They could be in the shower, using the restroom facilities, cooking, cleaning, talking business with someone else, it doesn't seem to matter what you are doing, a phone rings and you answer it.
Okay, case in point, yesterday I was discussing a project with a co-worker in their cubicle and their phone rang, instead of letting it go to voicemail they cut me off mid-sentence to answer the phone, it was a personal call and they were talking about what to make for dinner, blah blah blah, meanwhile I am standing there in the cubicle wondering if I should wait or leave. It was extremely frustrating because I was right there in their cubicle talking and they have voicemail, if it was important shouldn't the other party leave a message? I never answer my phone at work if someone else is in my cubicle, unless we are just bullshitting, but if it's business its business and the phone can wait.
Another example from yesterday, got a text message from a friend, ,she was getting divorced that day (signing the papers, etc...). Well I called her back when I got the message to hear the dirt, she answers the phone in a whisper...says "I gotta go, I'm getting divorced right now, call you later". Okay, so rather than letting her phone go to voicemail, she answers it while getting divorced....WTF? I don't get it...especially now with caller ID, I don't answer the phone most of the time, unless it is someone I know, I figure if its that important they will leave a message on our answering machine. What is our obsession with a telephone...maybe it makes us feel important that someone is calling us, or makes us feel as though someone cares, even though it is most likely a telemarketer or bill collector? What is it?
