senior status revived

senior status revived.

not since they won promotion to top ranks in 1938 have kilrossanty had to endure the embarrassment of having to play at intermedaite level. survival was threatened this year but kilrossanty football will be a endangered species no more as a gritty display at stradbally gaa grounds saw off  the challenge of local rivals kilmac. the game nearly spilled over into a 30 man brawl in the dying moments when a melee in the corner saw jay kirwan hit the ground and kilmacs key player walk the line. but order was restored and kilrossanty celebrated relief at the final whistle. final score. kilrossanty 0-13 kilmac 1-8.

minor campaign 2005

july 29th 2005: kilrossanty minor footballers have lay down their title that they miracously won in a memorable 2004 campaign. failing to achieve victory in any of thier four group games mean they missed out on qualification for this years semi-finals.

after a well hard fought, if not inspiring opening game against dark horses stradbally where the lads managed to combat against all odds and hold on for a well earned draw, scoring 1-5 to stradballys 0-8, it seemed as if the lads were on the right road to the semi-fials.

next came last years western finalists and clear favourites for the cahmpionship ballinacourty. after a slow start they trailed at half-time 7pts to 1. but they raised their game and rallied back to reduce the margin th 3pts at one stage but undeserved goal inthe dying moments flattered thescoreline. kilrossanty 1-5 ballinacourty 2-9.

a win next would put kilrossanty in key position for qualification but the lads failed to get into gear and put up a weak fight against to brickeys 1-8 to 0-3.

in their last game a win over st.olivers would decide qualification. st.olivers who also needed to win were rocked early on by kilrossanty when davy cunnuigham dispatched to the net. unfortunately the tide turned from their on with brian phelan dominating the midfield for olivers. final score: kilrossanty 2-3 st.olivers 2-10

heroes of campaign: captain steven raher was superb in goal throughout and corner backs wayne and eoin power excelled with each new challenge thrown at them.

wednesday may 25th 2005: western A final in fraher field: kilrossanty after some terrible wides were first to raise a flag through steven pender but playing with the wind did not find their feet quick enough and at the break found themselves trailing 4 pts to 3. some dodgy refereeing desicions and an early second half goal should have rocked the green and gold but they kept their heads up and kio ryan remained cool to slot home a goal for comeragh almost immediately after. although the momentum had now swung to our favour the scoring boots didnt and ballinacourty began to dominate and with ten minutes to go it was all over. final score: ballinacourty 2-9 kilrossanty 1-4.

may 14th 2005: u-16 county final vs dunhill/fenor. kilrossanty opt to play with a gale force wind in the first half but at half time despite leading 5pts to 2pts their heads are down as they know they have not taken full advantage of the wind. duhill came out attacking and two lucky goals sealed victory for them with the full time score finishing dunhill/fenor 2-10 kilrossanty 0-8.

the seniors took to the field at 7:30 that night to play bunmahon in a friendly challenge. this was a close encounter with kilrossanty just shading it in the end.

may 15th 2005: kilrossanty u-14 vs clashmore u-14: the green and gold took on a very well balanced clashmore outfit in the western feile final at fraher field this morning. it turned ot to be a goal fest with clashmore coming out on top 8goals and 4pts to 2goals and 2pts. one of waterfords rising players of the future brian o halloran was playing for clashmore and his lihtning pace threatened and tormented the comeragh defence all day. a big blow to kilrossanty was the injury of paul whyte who unfotunately pulled his hamsring and had to retire from the game.
