Rain Rain go away
It's been raining for what feels like years, but it's really only been about 9 days. Still, in Southern California, that's an obscene amount of dreariness to endure. Especially when you're trapped in the apartment with a nine month old who wants to be into EVERYTHING!
How many times will I have to scream 'no' today? How many times will disaster narrowly be averted? The answer is uncertain at this time, but I'm estimating in the low 100's.
I remember reading an article about how many repetitions it takes for a baby to learn something new. It was something like 5,000 times, but sometimes it feels like even more.
But at least I made my writing goal for today. 2,000 words finished by 11:00 a.m. this morning. And they're not bad, even if I do say so myself! I wish it could have been more, but it's hard to concentrate...and dangerous. If I get too focused on what I'm writing when I'm supposed to be munchkin-watching, I tend to tune out the world and the next thing I know he's got something poisonous or electrical in his mouth.
Of course, I could baby proof this rat hole, but when since we're moving in 22 days, it seems rather futile. I'll just wait until we move and then I'll do my bast to make sure that there are as few 'no's' as possible. Otherwise, I think the rugrat will go as crazy as his mommy. Poor kid, it has to suck for everything to be a 'no'. A baby has to explore after all.
He did learn to open a door today. I could tell it was very exciting for him. He got it open far enough to see his dad in bed using his hand, but then he got too excited at the sight of his beloved pop and charged forward, banging the door open with his head. Good thing he's got a nice solid skull.
Well, time to go, at least this will be a good way to get a little writing in when 'fictionalizing' just isn't possible.
