Hungary seventh part - tour around nice cities and to Balaton lake

Pictures >>> city tour and balaton lake

  As you
guessed already, I was quite busy last weeks, that’s the reason why there was
no news. So I am back in Germany
already and have had a presentation last week with the first part of my
results. Together with Dr. Szabó (my teacher) and Prof. Gaál (the president of Veszprém University)
I travelled to Darmstadt.
We discussed the results with the German colleagues and finally everybody was
satisfied.

  After our
trip to Budapest Anja and me have had some “normal” days in Veszprém. Anja also
had to learn a little bit, so I could work as usual. But in the evenings we
went out with our friends to have party (in Mythos, Grand
Canyon and Scorpio).

  On Friday I
organized a tour to nice cities in the western part of Hungary. First
we visited the Benedictine Abbey in Pannonhalma. It is quite impressive on the
top of the hill. The history of this abbey is as old as the Hungarian, because
the first...

Hungary sixth part - Budapest, the beautiful capital

part 1

    Pictures >>> Budapest
part 2

  On Wednesday
I drove to Budapest
and picked up Anja at the airport. Together we went to the city and got the
opportunity to visit Nicolle there. She has got a flat right in the city centre
and we could stay there, THANKS

  In the
evening we went to a nice restaurant and enjoyed Hungarian food. Later we met
Noemi and David, I knew them from Veszprém. They showed us the terrific view
over the lightened city from the Citadella (it is a castle on the top of the
tallest hill).

  Next day we
started the tour in Budapest
and went to the pedestrian area and visited the St. Stephan cathedral. It is
the church of the founder of Hungary
and you will find there a big marmoreal statue of him and even his (maybe
original) right hand. For Lunch we met Mr. Barabacs, he is the representative
of BEYER Limited in Hungary.
With him we had a nice chat about the Hungarian...

Hungary fith part - trip to Székesfehérvár

    pictures >>> walk
around Székesfehérvár

  Veszprém is
called „the city of Queens“
because a lot Queens were crowned by bishops here. 40 kilometres in Eastern
direction you will find „the city of kings“, Székesfehérvár. King Stephan I.
founded the Hungarian kingdom there in 1001 and it was the capital for more
than 500 years up to the occupation of the Turkish army. I went there with
Viola, a Hungarian student, because it is the town, where she went to school. So
she could show me a lot of nice places. As you can see in pictures it is such a
beautiful city with old buildings. You can see the former cathedral, where the
kings were crowned and buried, but you just see some rest of walls. Outside the
city centre you may find some “modern” buildings from socialism time and a very
modern cinema centre of course.

  By the way,
for me it is unbelievable how the people can survive. Of course there are a lot
of big shops already (like METRO, Media...

Hungary fourth part - trip to Keszthely

    pictures >>> trip to Keszthely

  Since Friday
it is lousy cold already and we got a little bit snow. In the morning I drove
together with Andi and Noemi to their hometown in the western part of Hungary, next
to Balaton lake. The name of the city is Keszthely and it is the most famous
tourist target in Hungary.
Of course it is just in summer, so now it looks like a sleeping village. But
because of the big amount of Germans everything is written also in German and
most of the people know the language…

  First we
visited the lake, but it was a little bit foggy. After the we went to the
baroque palace of
Graf Fetectics. He was
the founder of the first university in Hungary
and was responsible for cultural and research developing of Hungary in the
18 th century.

  After that I
joined Andi to her home village, called Kehidakustány (just try to pronounce it
   J ). It was
like a journey into past. Her father has got a farm with animals, corn and...

Hungary third part - what happened during the week

    pictures
>>> walk around Veszprém

Since Wednesday I am absolutely sure: Veszprém is not a
boring city! But first read, what happened last week…

On Monday I tried to cook my first time in Hungary. It was
ok; I cooked noodles and Italian sauce with salad. On Tuesday I joined some
students to sports lesson and we played floorball. It just remembered me to the
time when I played Ice-hockey, ten years ago.

The first part of results of my workout I had to
present on Wednesday. The teacher was satisfied and we had had an interesting
discussion about the differences between German and Hungarian managers. Thanks
to Esther and Peter (Hungarian students) who support me for my workout.

In the evening we went to the disco “Mythos”, it was such
great! About 150 students were celebrating, the music was good and the prices
quite low. When I left the disco at 3 a.m. it was still full, so I guess not
everybody was back at university at 8...

Hungary second part - I have my accommodation!!!

Finally I got my own accommodation and have a nice
room including separate bathroom and internet access, now J
It is a building just for students and except my colleague Ingo from Darmstadt, there are only
Hungarians living…

Friday started with a visit of porcelain manufacture
in Herend together with a group of students and professor Kovacz. It was quite
interesting to see, how they are producing the nice porcelain and especially
the difficult painting was incredible. In the afternoon Bastian presented me
the city of Veszprem
with all the sightseeing highlights. We visit the hill with the castle and the
old town. After one hour by feet it was over and we had seen everything…

In the evening I enjoyed to unpack all my stuff and
when I just finished three students surprised me, when they presented me a
welcome drink. After that we went out for party together. Before we have had
the party in a bar, we visited a friend of them and drunk this special

Hungary first part - start with troubles

My start in Hungary was more problematic than I
expected. After three days I still don’t have an accommodation… So, I don’t
have to sleep in the car, but at the moment I have to overnight in the
living-room in a house together with 4 other guys. Because of this place I still couldn’t unpack my
stuff! Let’s see, they promised me to find an own room during weekend.

With my workplace is it much better. I have got my own office and yesterday I spent half of
an day to setup my computer, but now I have got Internet and can
check my Emails, as well.

I also started the work for my diploma already. First
I have to read a lot of things and I hope to start my analyzing of the survey
on weekend. My target is to find out how the behaviour of bosses in
German-Hungarian companies is.

In total there are 12 students from foreign countries
in Veszprem at
present. 6 from Germany, 3
from Greece, 2 from Italy and one guy from Finland. Together with all the...

Alex in Hungary

After one week travelling around Germany (Hannover, Goettingen, Muenchen and Vienna) I am finally in Hungary. In Veszprém (about 120 km south-west of Budapest) I am going to write my diploma (last workout). It should need about 3 months and I have to analyze a survey about the behaviour of german CEOs in hungarian companies.
My reports and pictures about my stay in Veszprém you will find in my diary during the next weeks.

The party together with church server was great and we have had a good

pictures from vacation

first picture-gallery of my trip to USA is online already:
Get some impressions of Los Angeles: www.alexbo.de

The complete report and the other pictures I am going to put in internet next weekend...

Last week I went to Berlin, because of a seminar I participated. It was quite interesting and I met a lot of nice persons.

On the weekend we have had a concert with our orchestra (Starkenburg
Phillharmoniker). We played Mozart program and the audience was
enthusiastic!

Tomorrow I will visit the church servers, they are in vacation
together. Every year it is about one week, but I can just stay 3 days.

USA - second part

After an interesting travel around the western part of USA I arrived in San Francisco already. The last week we drove about 5,000 kilometres by car and visited a lot of natural parks. From Los Angeles we drove to the impressive Grand Canyon and overnighted in the forest at a camping ground. From Grand Canyon we reached the Arches, passing Monument Valley and Canyonlands. One day later we reached the most beautiful park in my mind: Bryce Canyon! There we hiked through the Canyon and next day we enjoyed the sunrise
After the nice impressions in nature we visited the most amazing city Las Vegas! It is unbelievable what you can see there and actually there were such a lot of things new since my first stay in 1998. The highlight was the visit of Stratosphere tower, where is a roller coaster on the top in 250meter over sea.
On the way to San Francisco we drove through Death Valley (and survived) and passed the mammut trees in Yosemite park. In San Francisco we visited the Golden Gate, Downtown,...

USA - first part

The flight with Delta Airlines was quite ok and we needed 17 hours to travel to Los Angeles (including a stop in Atlanta).
In LA we picked up our nice car, it is a SUV midsize, so we have got enough space for our stuff...
In the traffic of LA we searched our first target, Ruth and Simon, were
we overnight now. Because of the good directions and signs in the
streets it was no problem. After our welcome it was great to have
a bed for sleeping again.
I woke up at 5 a.m. because of jetlag and we started our trip at 8 in
the morning. First thing we visited was an Outlet-center in Ontario,
the biggest on in California. To check the offer of the 200 shops, we
needed 6 hours and of course we bought a lot of things, because it is
sooo cheap
the rest of the day we spent at Venice beach, the most famous one in LA
and we also drove the sunset boulevard. We passed beverly hills and
BelAir, nice houses and interesting places. Last station was Hollywood,
but we will visit it again tomorrow, so...

something happend...

Last weeks I was very busy and couldn't care about my diary so much, so something happend what I summarize now:

- In Germany, we had got election and the result is quite awful in my
mind! I can't imagine how many people could vote for our government
party, which was not successful the last years.

- One year after my nice stay in China, I finished my website with
pictures of our great trip to Yunan province, Guilin, Beijing and Xian.
You also will find some usefull information, just visit www.china-special.de and you will find all the impressions.

- From the big birthday party of my grandfather I put a nice picture gallery in internet, you may find it on www.alexander-bode.de

Now I will start my vacation. Originally we wanted to go to Singapore
and Malaysia, but unfortunately I had to cancel our trip, because of
illness my girlfriend got. The doctor didn't allow her to go to Asia!
Anyway I organized a trip to USA already and on Tuesday our plane
starts to Los Angeles ...

XX. World Youth Days in Cologne

The experiences at World youth day in Cologne were FANTASTIC!
I saw the pope, we have had a lot of fun together, but we also prayed a
lot and celebrated together with 1 million people from 195 countries!
The highlight was the last weekend at "Marienfield" outside of Cologne.
We decided to walk from cathedral to this field (about 30 kilometres)
and were lucky, because all the busses were too full. So we arrived
very early and got a good place. But in the night it was quite cold...
The last mass on Sunday we celebrated together with pope Benedikt, 600
bishops, 10.000 priests and more than 1.1 million people! It was the
biggest mass in Germany.

Get some impressions, although they just can show a small part of all the experiences:

Seminar with cars at university

After watching the racing cars last weekend, I had got the practical
training in cars at university. Together with Florian, Stefan and
Katrin we tried to find out something about the car-technique by doing
experiments. We tested a Mercedes S-Class with Adaptive Cruise
Controll, a BMW with special brake-system and did some other
interesting experiments.
More information about it you will find in picture-gallery and as
special service you can download some video-clips (be careful with the

German Racing Cars at Nürburg Grand Prix

Because of an invitation of JÖST Racing Team I visited the Race of
German Racing Cars in Nürburg. It is a traditional race and so 112.000
people have seen it, even the weather was awful cold and wet. For me it
was very interesting, because I got the possibility to be into the pit
and see all the technique.
At the end, the race was quite successful. My favourite team AUDI won
the race and their driver Ekström is leader of the championship now!

was really impressive to enjoy the play in this historical setting. In
