Scientists Scramble to Destroy Flu Strain - abcs news health
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=666630
Nearly 5,000 labs in 18 received vials from a U.S. company that supplies kits used for quality control tests.
The germ, the 1957 H2N2 "Asian flu" strain, killed between 1 million and 4 million people. It has not been included in flu vaccines since 1968, and anyone born after that date has little or no immunity to it.
Vaccine mix-up .. a big mistake. Potentially millions could die because of one
error. Imagine if a terrorist got some of this flu virus.
This reminds me of Three Mile Island -
A valve was opened; the sensor reported that the value had opened.
Unfortunately the rod attaching the activator to the actual flange had broken.
So the operator got the message that the value have opened when it had not.
What should have happened was that a sensor should have been put in the
pipe to detect the flow. Then the operator would have known that the fluid flow
had changed, or not! This would have averted Three Mile Island. Poor engineering design!
The risk of sending out the wrong flu virus is that people are not immune to it.
If this flu virus was acquired by a terrorist - it could be used to spread flu.
It would cause economic harm and kill many under 35 year olds.
It seems a stupid idea to have a potentially harmful flu virus easily accessible
so that this accident can happen.
I hope that the smallpox virus, Ebola virus or Marburg virus (in Angola) are not stored in the same room as the safer virus. Such an awful accident could potentially kill thousands or millions.
What to do to avoid catching flu. and other diseases
Take Vitamin C. 3 gm a day is good and 400 IU vitamin E.
But take 18 gm a day ( 6 gm three times a day) for 4 days if you get flu.
Take Zinc 50 mg also.

multigram doses of vitamin B-3
But this important work was ignored and hardly any physicians are aware it was ever done.
Drs. Wilfred and Evan Shute[9] showed that
large doses of vitamin E - treated coronary disease, burns, and for prevention.
Now, in graphic detail, a documentary slide show reveals how government health authorities conducted flawed scientific experiments to hide the many health benefits of vitamin C. British researchers Steve Hickey and Hilary Roberts
dispel the false idea that high-dose vitamin C creates nothing more than expensive urine, and show how humans can triple their blood concentrations of vitamin C and dramatically reduce their risk for heart attacks, cataracts, aneurysms, allergy and many other maladies.
Breakthrough: Retinal Photos Confirm Vitamin C Pills Can Reverse Artery Disease
The impetus to take vitamin C pills dwindled in 1992 when National Institutes of Health … But in April of 2004 researchers published a paper that escaped public attention.
Not only did researchers find that intravenous vitamin C could reach concentrations in the blood circulation 140 times greater than oral consumption and should be re-evaluated as a treatment for cancer (recall now, Dr. Pauling successfully employed intravenous vitamin C to treat cancer, but his work was discredited by the Mayo Clinic), but vitamin C pills can elevate blood levels three times greater than what was previously thought possible. [Annals Internal Medicine 2004 Apr 6; 140 (7):533-7] High-dose vitamin C wasn’t going to waste. For unexplained reasons, this landmark report never caught the attention of the major news media nor the National Institutes of Health which continues to mistakenly maintain that more than 200 milligrams of vitamin C per day is a waste of money.
Then a landmark report published in the British Medical Journal this past July revealed that blood vessels at the back of the eyes begin to narrow before high blood pressure develops. [British Medical Journal 2004 Jul 10; 329(7457):79] Any doctor with an ophthalmoscope can directly visualize these retinal vessels. Patients with narrowed retinal blood vessels can’t be placed on drugs because their blood pressure isn’t elevated yet. Modern medicine had made a great discovery that could lead to the prevention of millions of strokes and heart attacks, but it didn’t have a therapy in place. [Take vitamin C.]
n 1958 Dr. Linus Pauling published his book, No More War. Today, if Dr. Pauling were still alive, he would probably write a sequel to that book entitled No More War Against Vitamin C. There is a renaissance in vitamin C supplementation underway. A series of events is unfolding so fast it is difficult to stay current on this topic.
