Life Update

Hi Everyone,

Well it's been a while since I updated. Below you will find some photos from Live 8, Confed Cup Aust v Germany and our trip to Rock im Park.

Live 8

Went yesterday and it was better than I expected. Somewhere between 150 and 200 thousand people. They couldn't all fit in the picture. We were quite down the front, past the big screens and could see the stage ok when people weren't jumping up and down. The weather was fantastic, sun and about 28 degrees. Went down with some friends of Ela's. Tried to hook up with people I know but just too many people. Lots of German bands you have never heard of played plus Green Day and Audioslave rocked out in the afternoon. We got there at 1pm and it kicked off at 2. Was still going strong when we left around 8 after 7 hours I needed a good lie down!! Unfortunately our pictures are too big to upload on this site.

Confederations Cup - Aust v Germany

First time I have seen Australia play in any sort of sports event. We flew down to Frankfurt in the morning and did the tourist thing, before heading into town where all the Aussies were hanging out at an Irish Bar, probably 2-300 aussies, the most I have ever seen in one spot outside of Australia, except for a powderfinger concert.

Had great seats just behind the goals. A smattering of Aussies around so I had to keep the locals in check with random comments about their players. Sarcastic remarks about the opposition is not really something Germans do and the crowd seemed to be more amused by my banter than upset. Was dissapointing that we lost but at least we scored a few goals and we got lotsa respect from the Germans.

Rock im Park

Too many stories for here, you must visit, see the pictures and Neil and I can talk for hours. I promised my cousin the greatest 4 days of his life if he came and god bless him he came and he had the 4 best days of his life. The festival experience can not really be described, it needs to be experienced to truly appreciate it. We saw Billy Idol, HIM, Velvet Revolver, Incubus, Wednesday 13, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Slayer, REM to name a few. Considering the number of bands we could see we saw very few, I think tetra pack containers filled with vodka and rum played a part in this.

The Aussie Flag.

The flag came with us to all these events. It never ceases to amaze me what a positive reaction it inspires from those around us. At rock im park it was like we were rockstars, we couldn't walk 100 metres without someone stopping us and wanting to talk, take a picture and tell us about a)their trip to Aust b)wanting to go to Aust c)how lovely aussies are or d)all of the above. At times it gets a bit out of control, you want to watch the band and some dude can't stop hugging you or the people who get down on their knees in front of you are a bit off putting, one guy offered me his passport while he took the flag to take a phot with his mates! But the Germans at the footy all dressed up like Australians complete with blundstones won the weirdness stakes by a mile, they'd come to support Australia not Germany. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi.
