A Start - if not a beginning, then at least, not how it ends.
Imagine, if you will, a Nation State of individuals, families, dynasties, men, women and children, each with their own personalities, living, working and thriving in a real British democratic society. A Nation State peopled from history by Celts, Saxons, Angles, Romans, Vikings, Normans and in more modern times be fellow European, Commonwealth and Global settlers. A Nation of races, cultures, religions, backgrounds - harmonious, tolerant, integrated and confident in the strength of their Union. A Union protected, nurtured and emboldened by a strong, defiant, fair and just democratic system. A system visible and measureable in an enshrined constitution protecting the individual, limiting the powerful and for those who defy - persecuting and prosecuting them relentlessly.
I want to talk about the United Kingdom, to explain why this Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy are anything but what they claim. I want to put forward an idea of true democracy, true constitution and true authority for the citizens. I believe I can show how much better for the Nation this will be. I want to look at how and why we are, where we are and how thin the reasons for continuing with the present system.
I don't want to go down the path of promoting favourites, giving superiority to some and growing inequality - for that is not the way for democracy.
Over the next entries, I will talk (I hope not preach nor rant) and at the end we all will be willing to look again at our social, economic and political systems. I am sure I will learn from some feed back and though, today, my view is clear, I predict the outcome will be different.
First idea - a new National Anthem - Pomp and Circumstance. Now there's a good idea for anyone with any musical bent or even national fervour!
