OPENING ADDRESS IN HONOR OF
L. RON HUBBARD'S
BIRTHDAY
- 1998 -
More than 4,000 Scientologists-an all-time record-streamed into the Flag Land Base (Scientology’s spiritual mecca in Clearwater, Florida) on March 13th, 1998, to honor L. Ron Hubbard. They were joined by satellite with Scientologists in nearly 100 countries speaking 39 languages.
Mr. David Miscavige Chairman of the Board, Religious Technology Center, opened the event with a presentation on the tributes and awards bestowed upon L. Ron Hubbard throughout the year-and the stories behind some of those awards and the profound impact Mr. Hubbard has on the lives of people all over the world.
PART 1 - THE OPENING OF THE EVENT:

Good evening.
Welcome to the event where we gather in greater numbers than on any other night of the year.
As a matter of fact, our celebration is being seen in nearly 100 countries and 39 languages, all joined to honor a name transcending every language, every border, every culture—a name of truly universal proportions and, on one level or another, a man whom everyone recognizes: L. Ron Hubbard.
And so, from the latest land just opened to his technology, the republic of San Marino located in Eastern Italy, and in fact, the oldest independent country in Europe, to Budapest, Hungary, where the national synchronized swimmers now don DianeticsT-shirts, to our churches and missions that today span five continents and 117 countries, we welcome you tonight.
