Mr. David Miscavige 1997 Opening Address

The first part of Mr.
David Miscavige’s address:
Good evening. Thank you very much.
And welcome to this evening’s celebration.
We often say, “This is a birthday celebration like no other.”
And as Scientologists, we understand that to mean we celebrate the founder of our religion, and the source of the path to spiritual freedom.
But, that statement—“A birthday celebration like no other”—has deeper meaning.
To millions across the globe, it means, “The source of my ability to study,” or “To live an ethical existence,”—or simply, “The source of my ability to be and experience the beauty around me, no longer dulled by drugs.”
And finally, it means this: We aren’t merely celebrating a birthday with
cake and candles, partying for the sake of partying. Rather we are celebrating
something truly forever—the source of gifts that give us our eternity.
And we do so in unison with individuals all across the globe—nearly100 nations,
310 cities—all linked in celebration of L. Ron Hubbard.

Joining us for the first time tonight are people from the following countries: The Czech Republic, Cyprus, Belarus and Latvia.
What does March 13th really signify?
And why is it the most unique night on earth?
Certainly, we honor a man and his unparalleled accomplishments.
And we honor him as a friend in the fullest sense of the word.
More than that, we remember the fact that, having crossed his path, we discovered something tangible, something real, something we could put to use.
And it was not forced upon us.
There were no strings attached.
We came to it of our own accord, each with his own realizations, his own
reality. And all of it expressed in the most powerful, if simplest terms
imaginable:
“The ultimate freedom depends upon knowing the ultimate truth.
“Truth is not what people say it is.
“It is what it is.”
Now, there are several implications to that statement.
But as a first word on an overview of just what
L. Ron Hubbard means to this world, let’s understand that when you have an
ultimate truth, you have a force that cuts across all nations, all cultures,
all belief systems.
Because when you have ultimate truth, you don't have to buy into anything.
You just view it and apply it.
As L. Ron Hubbard said, you don't even necessarily have to believe it.
And therein lies the real point: To experience the real truth of L. Ron Hubbard's technology, you must apply it.
And when you do, you see it invariably works, whether you believe it or not.
