LOST IN EUROPE...

Do we learn with our mistakes?

Today... woke up(pretty late would say), it was so good, lying in bed just thinking it was sunday, and didnt need to be in a hurry to get out...

so... made some breakfast and started reading a paper... the headline was about the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in poland, a place of nightmare that plumbed new dephs of human depravity. And i thought, do we really learn with our mistakes? Sometimes i think not... because sometimes we rightly say, never again, but action is much harder... it is easy saying then put it in action....

The world has, to its shame, failed more than once to prevent genocide, lots of examples.. many wars..  and yet even after a century that witnessed the blood-drenched regimes of Stalin, Mao Tse-Tung, Hitler´s ¨final solulion¨ stands alone, not for its scale of barbarity, but for the way it organized the murder of millions as you would an industrial process.   It is unspeakable... i keep thinking that after that we still didnt learn our lesson... the Holocaust stands not just as a memory but as a warning, that this is what we are capable of, because it was not just the work of a few madmen, but was carried out with the cumplicity of millions of ordinary people that turned a blind eye.

... it is human nature to push against the limits of the possible... we can only hope that, having shown how low we can sink, we never feel the need to go there again...

So, do you think we do learn with our mistakes?

a little tought for the weekend....

´...people travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering...¨ by St. Augustine

Have a lovely weekend!

in a jazz mood...

Listening to: serge chaloff

...im completely wiped out! Having exams at uni, working.... making up for such long days!!!! well, life isnt easy always! , it is just a result of our choices...isnt it?

...when im feeling a bit stressed out i like to listen to some special music... having a bath and well, just relax doing nothing... and i love  jazz, it can be very relaxing... for me it is a nice way of reality desconexion... and i love saxophone!!!!!

...have you ever heard of Serge chaloff? he was arguably one of the greatest baritone saxophonist in jazz history, but unfortunately his lifelong drug adiction and untimely death prevented him from achieving his full potential as one of the saxophone most dominant figures. I love his style... it has a kind of swinging feel, grace and passion.

His life was a bit well, dont know how to say.. intense... and it makes me think how life can be weird and tragic! When Chaloff eventually overcame his addiction to drugs, he tragically contracted a spinal tumor shortly after kicking heroine, and was confined to a wheelchair for the last year of his life. He passed away in 1957 at the age of 33. As i told you... life can be beautiful as well as tragic...

so...is life a question of choices or is it question of destiny???

who knows where life will take us... do you?

Some poetry....

I love a poet from Chile called Pablo Neruda. His works are full of sensibility. So i though i could share a litlle bit of Neruda´s work with you guys...

´...I have learned something: that it is we ourselves who create the phantons of our own mythification. From the very mortar with which we create, or hope to create, are formed the obstacles to our own evolution. We may find ourselves irrevocably drawn toward reality and realism - that is - toward an unselective acceptance of reality and the roads to change - and then realize, when it seems to late, that we have raised such severe limitations that we have killed life instead of guiding it to growth and fruition...

...we have imposed on ourselves a realism heavier than our building bricks, without even having constructed the building we thought was our first responsability...¨

Oh, yes... you can tell me that it happens when you are in love... but this feeling is completely different from that one you feel when you are over the moon...

Rebajas....

Las Rebajas (it is how the spaniards called their big sales promotion), so las rebajas were the big attraction this past weekend...  everybody went shopping!!!! All you could see at the streets were people packed with shopping bags!

It is incredible how people are crazy about shopping... we actually buy lots of things that we dont really need... oh, well... we humans... so superficially empty sometimes...

how can we live our lives trully in a false world??????

Los reyes....

...yesterday was a bank holiday called los dias de Reyes here in spain.  It is a day when the Reyes Magos bring presents for everybody...oh well, nearly everybody...

Actually this date is much more important then Xmas itself... at least if you gonna think about it in a catolic point of view it makes more sense the reys magos bringing you  a present then the Santa Claus....

HEY GUYS!!!!

Well... ive been thinking (yeh!!! I can do that! ) of a way of sharing my experiences, opinions, ideais and son on... with people around the globe... so i thought... why not buld up a blog?

So.. here it is... my fisrt entry!

And now im thinking... what should i write? Perhaps write something about myself... a little introduction is always nice...

So, im michele, a brazilian girl lost in Europe.

I come from a town in south Brazil called Londrina, it is a pretty beautiful place. But you know, i started to feel as it was getting a little small for me...

...and i always thought that the world is like a book, if you stay just at home you gonna read just the first page of it....  and the rest? So I decided that i was going to get through the book... and i came to Europe three years ago, where im stil lost!

The first place i went to live was London and, well, many stories to tell about that... perhaps i will go through some of them later on...

After getthing fed up with the lovely english wheather decided to come over to La tierra del sol! So here im am, at the lovely Barcelona city. It is definitely beautiful and do you know what i really love about here? To wake up in the morning and to look outside the window and see a lovely blue sky! Being a brazilian who spent nearly three years in England... i can say that it definitely makes the difference!

I came to Barcelona to take my master in Business Communication and of course to experience the spanish way of living!

I think i wrote too much so far!!! Anyway... need to go...

Wish everybody a lovely new year beggining!!!!
