Rat Race
A friend of mine decided that he had spent more than enough of his life running the rat race. I remember numerous occasions upon which he complained about constantly having to concentrate on earning money in this fast and cruel business world. He has been working for several years in the hi tech field and was always on the lookout for new ways of making money. It was always a search for more money - to keep up with the neighbours.
All of a sudden, one day it was all over. The shrewd business man had decided that all this finance stuff was no longer for him. He withdrew himself from his business commitments, sold up his house and paid his debts to the mortgage company. It all happened very quickly. He then sold the majority of his house contents in a large private sale. Following this, making every effort to escape this material world, he disappeared off to some shack out in the country. It is fortunate that he told me before he left, as in keeping with his new lifestyle he is now without his mobile phone and e-mail!
Believe me; I do not know what he does with his time now. He is probably chopping trees for firewood and going fishing. I know that this sounds rather like something out of a film. A different friend went to visit him last week and he is apparently very happy. So, who am I to pass judgement? If he is happy, then I am happy for him.
