Making Money as a Working Mum
Always looking for new ways of making money, I was only recently aware of the dilemma faced by many working mothers. Going out to work in the big, wide and often bad world presents many additional pressures for the working Mum. I became aware of this challenge or rather, problem confronted by women, following a long heart-to-heart chat with my sister.
Due to a difficult financial situation, my sister was anxious to find a job. However, with two young kids at home, this proved to be quite a mission. The first problem always seemed to her to be how many hours she is able - or willing - to work. She had already decided that she would not wish to spend the majority of her day at work while somebody else looks after and brings up her children.
Apart from the fact that part time work is often hard to find, my sister then pointed out to me that the salary earned from any prospective part time job has to be more than she would have to pay out for child care. If the money would only just about cover the child care, then it is not really worth her while going out of the house at all to work. Taking into consideration the days when the children will undoubtedly be off sick and holiday times, perhaps it is not worth returning to the working force until the children are a bit older.
In the meantime, my sister is still at home - quite happily spending more time with her children.
