I'm from African, but right now I'm living in Beijing as an English Teacher.I like chinese people very much and also like to speak chinese. When i meet my chinese friend, i always say ''Nihao! chifa la ma?''This is an intimate way of greeting amongst close chinese friends.Meaning helllo how are you.Once a student said to me,''laoushri hao?''I also said laoushri hao thinking i responded to the greetings of the student meanwhile i only repeated what she said as''Good morning teacher'' and i reapeted good morning teacher.

I noticed that i might have said the wrong thing when several others said this and i said same they laughed very much.I asked another chinese teacher the meaning of what i said that made student always crazy about, was told i said good morning teacher back to them.Funny isn't it?Chinese is so easy to speak but very difficult to read their characters.
