What we up to then?
Orientation day. A chance to see all the projects in action following the expected intro and not so expected request that all volunteers stand up and introduce themselves on a microphone. Too many names. Never remember that many. Trip was very eye opening, but the area has gone from disaster recovery to development. Volunteers were busy making and repairing boats, helping with village construction (one village was on a island accessed by a mini-ferry), creating playgrounds and making stuff for the craft shop. On the way back to the volunteer centre, the van stopped to allow a view of a police boat washed up by the tsunami. The boat was 40 feet long, made of solid metal, and we were nearly a mile inland. Back at the centre, people are assigned to projects. However, despite around 6 months of contact, Jamie ends up on a village construction project and Sabrina is to work in the office 'in some capacity'. How'd that happen?! Disappointment is avoided by Sabrina administering a fine haircut to Jamie.
