IMSMA V4 Details

Let me summarize what I have learned about IMSMA V4.

Software:

  • Based on some open-source software components like MySQL database
  • Written in Java with integrated GIS (ESRI Arc Engine based)
  • Designed as decentralized DB with data transfer methods (such as maXML)
  • Available in the languages English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic

Functionality:

  • Managing Hazard, Hazard Reduction, Accident and Victim, MRE (Activity?), QA, Location, Place
  • Visualization in GIS
  • Searching 
  • Reporting via built in reports and (in the future) report building wizard
  • Export data via maXML
  • Setup: Gazetteer, User Account, Map, Organization

    You wrote IMSMA V4 will be open source. I do not believe that IMSMA will be open source. Mainly due to the fact that ESRI ArcGIS Engine is commercial software and IMSMA itself is not published under an open source license like GPL at all!



    While Java is often used for open source projects and MySQL is one, IMSMA is NOT open source - as the GICHD states on its web page.



    This is surely a pitty as the community could really benefit from IMSMA being open source.

    Thanks for your comments. You are right, I corrected the statement about open software.



    I agree with your statement, that the community could really benefit from IMSMA being open source. It looks like the current development goes into the opposite direction.
