Make your woman fall in ove with you - just buy her flowers!

The Unique Lily
Symbol of purity, perfection, and flawless beauty, striking in its variety of form, color, fragrance, and seasons of flowering, the lily is unique among all cultivated plants. In its almost endless variation it is rivaled only by the orchid. In its ease of culture, its endurance and vitality, it must be compared to the daffodil, the tulip, and the iris. All over America, all over Europe, in gardens new and old, in a Woolner flower shop, lilies are flowering, year after year, with little or no care. Who has not seen clumps of fine lilies- perhaps of the old Tiger Lily, the Candlestick Lily, or of the pure white Madonna Lily- in old farm gardens where they must have been at home for many years? Who among us has not driven along the highways of our country to be startled and arrested by the sight of some glowing yellow or orange flowers, lilies, shaped like toy balloons, like temple bells, swaying in the wind? Here they grow among grasses and low shrubs, under trees, in sunshine and shade. Here they live and multiply.

Get well soon

Flowers can convey a sense of deeply felt empathy so they make the perfect gift to let someone know your thinking of them. Ultimately what flowers you choose will come down to a personal decision but you should bare in mind the nature of the gift. If someone is just feeling a little unwell maybe some bright uplifting flowers will be most appropriate to lift the spirits. If the recipient is terminally ill or seriously unwell then maybe a more serene, delicate approach is called for from your Annesbrook Florist. Choosing the right floral arrangement to send will require a little thought, but whatever you choose will be sure to lift the spirits of someone who is not feeling at their best.

Simple Steps to Long-lasting Cut Flowers

Keep the water fresh and deep. For maximum life, change the water in your vase at least every third day. Many flowers benefit from fresh water daily. There is a direct correlation between clean water and long flower life. When you change the water, cut ½ inch off the base of the stems with a sharp instrument. Also consult with your florist for the best advice when you take your flower delivery Redditch.

Christian Lily
The lily is closely intertwined with Christian history. Lilies grew in the Holy Land and carvings of them adorned the Temple in Jerusalem. (The "lilies of the field" that Christ described as surpassing Solomon in all his glory may have been lilies, but modern researchers believe it more likely that they were anemones.) For centuries the white lily was used by painters to symbolize the purity of the Virgin Mary. It was also used to make ointments and salves for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. As late as the 19th Century, fading European beauties were following a prescription of Dioscorides (41-68 A.D.), a Greek who served as a Roman army doctor and wrote a book about plants and flowers Droylsdon. Lilies, said Dioscorides, "being beaten small with honey . . . clear faces and make them without wrinkles." Another of his prescriptions, for a face oil, was more difficult to concoct: it required 3,000 lilies to prepare a single batch of the lotion, not to mention days of mincing, boiling and straining before the precious liquid was ready.

When should I send flowers?
Pretty simple question right? Well it seems that it poses more of a problem than you might think for the majority of men. Now, in the context of just giving flowers to people for the loss of a loved one or bringing flowers to someone in the hospital most men have no problem figuring that part out. The problem starts when the flowers are intended for a girlfriend or wife. I'm sure we've all got the credit card out and phoned the local South Brentwood florist when the 'other half' is not best pleased with us. The trick to sending flowers though is to be totally random and spontaneous. Women just love receiving flowers for absolutely no reason whatsoever, other than she is loved.

Stylish and effective
Florists know that the easiest way to create a stylish and effective arrangement is to stick with one type of flower in a single colour, so you can concentrate on the overall impact without worrying whether the blooms go together. And just as important as your choice of flower is the container in which you choose to display them. Look around your house. Virtually anything that can hold water can be used to display flowers. Even if a receptacle isn’t watertight, you can insert a tumbler or jam jar inside and arrange the flowers in that. Many arrangements you receive as a flower delivery Townhead are presented in clear glass vases, which mean that the flowers are strong enough to stand on their own, using the mouth of the vase for support. Opaque containers allow you to anchor stems with specialized steadying devices, such as floral frogs pin holders or floral foam.
The only tools you need for the majority of simple arrangements are sharp kitchen scissors, a pair of secateurs (to cut through pithy or woody stems), and florist’s wire or twine, for tying up stems. (You can use florist’s tape for this purpose, too.)
Remember that most flowers have a vase life — the time they remain in water in a vase or other container in your home — of approximately five days to one week. To ensure that flowers stay healthy as long as possible, change their water every other day, adding a pinch or two of floral preservative each time.

Creating a Garland or Wreath
Collect the base, ribbons, equipment and all materials. Prepare the frame mechanics; for added security, the foam may be taped in place after it has been trimmed to shape. Pin clusters of lichen moss to hide the foundation and make an attractive finish, and then establish the outline, placing bold leaves at the centre for visual depth. Position focal point materials (such as seed heads) in a diagonal line, the largest at the centre.
Now add flowers and foliage in lines and groupings, filling the outline shape and placing flowers and leaves on different levels, to create an elevated profile.
Ribbon loops are positioned near the focal point areas, while single leaves and flowers Moreton are recessed. Finally, add streamers and glue the bow into position. For greater security, all flowers and foliage can be glued in place.

Helpful tips for cut flower care
A little extra care can make a big difference for any size or type of flower arrangement or fresh flower bouquet. We recommend that you use the following as a guide to maximise the life of your flower delivery Thornhill.

  • Make sure vases are very clean.
  • Use fresh lukewarm water with commercial cut flower food added.
  • Strip all leaves below the water level.
  • Take at least 3cm (1") off all stems, making a slanted cut with a sharp knife or very sharp scissors.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, heat, or draughts which can shorten flowers' lives.
  • Keep flowers away from fruit and remove faded flowers as they occur.
  • Top up the water regularly and add flower food in proportion.

Other cutting tools, tapes and wires
Secateurs: These are excellent for cutting thick woody stems.
Florists’ tape: This is used to conceal wires and seal stem ends. There are two main types of tape — the first is plastic and stretches, the warmth of your hand helping to secure it. The second type resembles crêpe paper, but is usually slightly sticky. The tapes are supplied in a variety of colours — green, brown, black, white and a range of pastel shades. Green is normally used with fresh materials, and brown with dried flowers.
Florists’ wire: This is used to support, control and anchor materials, lengthen stems and reduce weight. Always wire internally wherever possible, and use the finest gauge of wire that will give sufficient support. The larger the number, the thicker the gauge of a stub wire, the most popular. There is a wide variety of tapes available to the florist and it is a matter of personal preference which is used.
Glue guns are a comparatively recent, but now important, development in the floristry industry, performing numerous tasks effortlessly and securely — for example, attaching foam to containers and wall swags, ribbon to foam bases, or flowers Boerum Hill into bouquet holders.
Glue guns are divided into two types — hot and cool melt. The latter is ideal for attaching synthetic ribbons, which might otherwise melt, and the former is used for all other tasks.
