2009 will be a great year for florists everywhere
The 4 seasons
Each season holds its own particular delights. In the spring, flowering shrubs and trees abound in the garden, and pruning them of a few branches will only enhance future growth. Summer grasses are long and luxuriant and will be stocked by all good florists Kingston. At the beach, there’s driftwood to collect. And at this time of year, when flowers and plants are at their most abundant and plentiful, some specimens can be dried, including roses and lavender, and herbs such as yarrow, allowing us to enjoy them for weeks instead of just a few days. Some plant matter will last indefinitely. During the autumn, falling leaves can be collected and preserved to add to a floral display or to showcase alone, either pressed flat in frames or standing in a container. In darkest winter, arrangements of dried leaves and branches will remind you of the spring that is to come. Alternatively, glossy evergreens and bright berries practically beg to be clipped and displayed throughout the house, or even used to adorn the Christmas dinner table.
Get some seedlings
Hopefully, many of your gardener friends will have spare plants and will be happy to give you seedlings and cuttings, and I do advise you to accept these even if they are not exactly what you want, for they can always be replaced at a later date.
I tend to plant much too close together, pessimistically assuming that not everything is going to grow, but I suppose the ideal would be to plant each subject with enough space to grow to full maturity. Seeds, of course, can sometimes be included within a flower delivery East Cape instead of you having to take a trip to the nursery. If you are strong-minded and can do this, I suggest filling in during the early years with annuals, especially those like atriplex and moluccella, which are also lovely for picking and drying.
When should I send flowers?
Pretty simple question right? Well it seems that it poses more of a problem than you might think for the majority of men. Now, in the context of just giving flowers to people for the loss of a loved one or bringing flowers to someone in the hospital most men have no problem figuring that part out. The problem starts when the flowers are intended for a girlfriend or wife. I'm sure we've all got the credit card out and phoned the local Westchester florist when the 'other half' is not best pleased with us. The trick to sending flowers though is to be totally random and spontaneous. Women just love receiving flowers for absolutely no reason whatsoever, other than she is loved.
Practical points to remember
I shall not attempt to advise you on every aspect of garden design, but I would like to suggest that the following points should always be kept in mind.
The cost of upkeep steadily increases all the time and there is always a limit to the time you can spend on your garden. For example, grass paths look attractive, but make for a lot of work, and, especially in the vegetable garden, some form of concrete or stone path will save effort in the future. Garden costs will hopefully be recovered when you no longer have a need to have flowers delivered Twickenham.
When you are thinking about your lawn, remember that bold sweeping curves not only look better, but will save you hours of maneuvering the mower around fiddly sharp corners.
What flowers can I dry?
Tropical cut flowers, such as the members of the Proteaceae family, can successfully and easily be dried. Australian honeysuckle (Banksia), king and queen proteas and pincushion proteas can ‘double up’ by being used in fresh arrangements before being dried. Foliage such as eucalyptus can be air dried and the many and varied species do keep a little of their fragrance for some time.
Kangaroo paw (Ariigozantbos sp. hybrid), another native of Australia, adds an unusual form to arrangements, and also dries well.
Latest Trends
The latest materials to be air dried are slices of fruit — apples, oranges and lemons can be successfully air dried in a warm airing cupboard, if you are lucky enough to have one in your florist Ridgeway shop. Encourage customers to bring their arrangements back regularly for cleaning, freshening up and maybe even sell them another lovely design.
Clean equipment
A balanced amount of bactericide in the flower food will inhibit the growth of microorganisms and protect the stem ends from blockage, but it will not eliminate bacteria, so it is essential that clean equipment and clean containers are always used. Gerberas are particularly sensitive to bacteria, and their containers must be kept scrupulously clean. Use either a proprietary bucket and vase cleaner or a teaspoon of bleach to one litre of water to clean all containers.
To delay the effects of ageing and to make the flowers less sensitive to the ageing hormone, an ethylene inhibitor is included in the nutrient. Ethylene gas speeds maturity, so it is important not to mix mature stock with fresh materials and to keep cut flowers in cool temperatures.
Either citric acid or an acidifier is another ingredient that an up and coming florist Kingstanding needs to be aware of. This lowers the pH of the water, because cut materials prefer slightly acid water, as this contains less oxygen than alkaline water.
Another component of the flower food stabilizes the colours of certain flowers, so that they retain their natural colour instead of fading.
Flower arranging is fun
Your flowers can be arranged using any container, you're not limited to the conventional vase. Try using different styles of bottles, glasses, baskets and even bowls to suit your fancy. Flower arranging is a fun and enjoyable activity, take the time to get it right, there's no rush, and the end result will be beautiful.
Just think of the money you will save by doing this yourself. Flowers are not cheap these days and the money you save can be put towards using a Caerau Florist to send flowers to a loved one. Imagine the delight when your flowers arrive unexpectedly. A good florist can also provide you with a wide selection of vases to complement your floral arrangement.
Flowers and Weddings
Ever wondered why weddings and flowers are so intrinsically linked? Well think of flowers and you think fresh, growth, blooming, spring time etc. All terms that could equally apply to a marriage, a fresh start, a new life, and relationship growth.
A new beginning is exactly what a wedding is. A new marriage has always been compared to springtime which then makes sense that flowers from spring should grace the wedding. Even if you are getting married in the middle of winter, a good reseller of flowers Netherley will be able to provide you with some beautiful spring flowers. After all, it will be spring somewhere in the world, right?
