Maruvia - The internet home of DJ Maru

Last night was quite good all in all. Had a few teething problems with the equipment as it's an unusual setup, but other than that and a CD skipping it all went fairly well. It took a while to get going and got busier around 10.30-11pm. Had lots of requests - most of them were for different Libertines/Babyshambles and Stone Roses/Ian Brown tracks just after I'd played them!

Had a good chat with someone about Radiohead's 'Talk Show Host' and someone had their photo taken with me - a bit random. Another bloke said I was the best DJ he'd ever seen, I think he may have had a drink.

Speaking of which I've got a bit of a headache today despite not having drunk all that much - must be old age creeping up on me and making me a lightweight.

Looking forward to next Tuesday now.

Upfront was really good on Saturday even if I did get a little drunk. My mum had been up to visit and we'd gone for a drink during the day (as well as record shopping). I've applied for a day job too so I had something to celebrate.

The bar was quite busy again and people seemed to be really enjoying themselves and dancing which is always good to see. I had a lot of requests too and played as many as I could. I also recorded the first half hour on mini-disc for the Steppin' Decks website, but the mixing wasn't very tight so I'm not sure now - although I pulled off the most difficult bit.

There were lots of people there who had obviously had a few drinks and stayed right 'til the end when they had to leave. They then set off home singing "Leave the bar, make it a better place, for you and for me and the entire Hancock race" (to the tune of Michael Jackson).

Bought a few more records yesterday and I'm really looking forward to Trashed at Revolution tonight, although slightly nervous as it's the first of a new regular night.

Trashed at Revolution
What: You say you want a revolution? Well, you can, with this Newcastle branch of the popular vodka bar.
Why: It looks like there really has been a revolution, as the uber trendy drinking hole abandons its easy-going music policy (for one night a week, anyway) to make way for Trashed - a new night of indie sounds and leftfield craziness, hosted by resident DJ Maru. Expect to hear the likes of The Futureheads and Maximo Park alongside the best in leftfield beats.

Normal monthly at the Hancock. This night is getting busier by the month, it's been going for two and a half years now. Lots of regulars that come to every gig, nice atmosphere but would be better if the top bar was open (and if it was every Saturday). Previous set-lists are included elsewhere on the blog.

28/06/05 - LAUNCH NIGHT - Trashed @ Revolution, Newcastle upon Tyne, 8pm-1am FREE ENTRY

Brand new weekly night at Revolution. Different from their usual Dance and R'n'B policy. Hopefully it will be a success. Looking forward to getting the posters and flyers (plus special promotional items) to hand out. We're planning on running all summer and doing some fine-tuning so that we can do another special launch for the students in September (details will follow when confirmed). We're running decent drinks offers plus the venue looks stunning and the sound is really good.

Hello y'all,

This is my wonderful new webspace. I'm just moving in at the moment, thinking about putting a sofa over there and a mini-fridge in the corner.

I intend to put lots of stuff on here including listings, news, pics and whatever else my public want - within reason.

I'm 24 years old and live in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. I have a degree in law and am studying for a masters in journalism - but that doesn't really tell you that much about me.

I currently have two dj residencies; the first is at Upfront at The Hancock which has been going for over two years - that's my night and is on the last saturday of every month. The second is a new night called Trashed at Revolution which starts on Tuesday 28th June 2005 and will run every week.

Hope you come back when I'm properly moved in and have plants and stuff.
