My favourite songs

Mood: Happy
Listening to: Peter Sarstedt

Hello to all.

Tink thought I should talk about my favourite song, so, seeing it's the only subject I can think of to talk about at the moment, I will.

Ok, it's really not easy, but I'll narrow it down to a few.

Jeff Buckley of course is right up there as my favourite musician. And the song of his that I would choose would have to be 'Last Goodbye'. It was the first I had heard of his, and it's such a beautifully written song. It has all the right elements. He sings it with emotion; lament, regret. The way the music is composed, the backup singers, the string section, it all comes together really nicely. He had so many great songs, and another favourite of mine is 'Satisfied Mind'.

I have always liked 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by Gerry and the Pacemakers. It's such a hopeful song, a 'light at the end of the tunnel' kind of song.

Bob Dylan has this song called 'Positively 4th Street', and from listening to it, you gather it's about an old 'friend' perhaps that was a bit of a user, but maintained that front of innocence, and tried to please everybody, but really was just stabbing them in the back. This song is a sort of a confrontation, saying "I know exactly what you're doing and who you really are, and I do not like you".  I like it so much, because I think a lot of people know someone like that, but aren't game enough to actually say anything about it. With all these songs about love, it's nice to hear one that you can relate to, that deals with another side of life.

And I have only recently had the pleasure of discovering Led Zeppelin. What an amazing band! I can't beleive how many great songs they had! I love listening to 'Stairway To Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love', Robert Plant's vocals are incredible! They had all the right elements in that band! But a song of theirs I quite like is called 'Night Flight' it's just such a catchy song, and I really only discovered it through Jeff Buckley's cover on his  Live at Si-ne' CD.

But there's so many great songs out there that really deserve a mention here, but there's just far too many to list! And there's always new artists popping up that are pleasantly surprising me. I really dislike this generation of music; rap and dance music is dominating the charts.

Well, that's my opinion, but I'd love to hear from anyone else, I'm always interested to know what other people enjoy listening to.

Goodnight!

A big howdy ho to all y'all

Mood: tired/ill
Listening to: Gary Allan

Ok, someone took my web log. I don't know who it was or what button I pressed, but it's gone. Byarrrgghhh! I spent like 5-7 minutes writing it!

Ok, well hi to all. I did start with something how it was sad because I checked and 3 people had visited my blog, and there was nothing for them to look at because I have been so lazy! I wasn't sure I wanted to do this, but then I thought what the heck.

Ok, well about me; I graduated from high school a couple of years ago and got myself a full time job. That's pretty much me. I wish I could say that I go golfing on the weekends and I enjoy fine dining and a la carte' and soup du jour, but that just ain't me.

I do however enjoy movies, music and very, very occasionally reading a good book. I'm not much of a reader, which is bad, because for all of my life up until recently I wanted to be a writer. And a writer who doesn't read much isn't supposed to be much of a writer at all. Someone said that. I don't know who. I have a whole stack of books waiting for me to read, and I know it's not gonna happen any time soon. It's like ADD or something, but a book has to be VERY interesting for me to read it. And if it is interesting enough I will stay up till all hours reading it. That said, a few good ones have been; The Pianist, The Scarlet Letter, A Boy Called It, To Kill A Mockingbird, Catcher In The Rye... all really good reads.

And movies too, I go every week. A few good ones I've seen this year are; The Life Aquatic, In Good Company, Batman Begins, Crash. I saw Heat the other day too, and that was excellent. And Runaway Jury is another good one.

And Music really keeps me going. At least it makes my drive to and from work a whole lot more interesting! Singing in the car, no matter how embarressed you may feel, is really good too! And I don't know about you, but  if you are indeed tone deaf like myself, you may find that when you get a cold or something, you find you have this different voice, and it's really kind of cool speaking and singing in this new voice. I know that's weird, but I know you know what I mean. Just the other day my voice was squeaky high. It was like a whole new pitch I'd never before experienced. Although, of course it didn't sound very good at all, certainly not what Mariah Carey seems to be capable of.

Ok, well what else do I write? Leave me a message in the guest book and then I can make this much more better and interesting.

Bye for now,

-The Colonel
