Everyone loves to keep their homes clean and tidy. We furnish our homes with costly furniture, rich drapes and precious silk rugs. We adore and keep these things close to our heart. We cannot stand to see them get spoiled or tarnished for various reasons. It is always good to know about various rug cleaning options that can be done at home. if the stains or dirt is manageable then we can clean our own furnishings with care without any professional intervention. I would always advise that for any stain removal or cleaning that you use professional silk rug cleaners like us

Rugs especially need a lot of care and maintenance. Keeping a rug spic and span is no easy task. You have to vacuum it and brush it to keep dirt and dust off the valuable piece of carpet. Let's have a look at some 10 rug cleaning tips.

  • To prevent rugs from oil soil vacuum it regularly and frequently. Dirt is what will help to accumulate more and more dirt which will then become a stain and make your carpet look dull and lifeless
  • Always clean stains instantly as soon as it is soiled. Don't wait for guests leave or the servant to arrive. Get the stain remover and set to work if you want your rug back
  • Use rug pads under your rugs irrespective of the floor type. Whether it is a hardwood floor or a marble floor this rule is very imperative as the rug pad will help the rug to be in its place and avoid sliding around and moving when you walk on them.  Rug pads will also help retain the original appearance of the rug for long periods of time
  • It is advisable to rotate the rug at least once in a year at least for 180 degrees. This will help the rug to wear and tear evenly. Generally sunlight will fade the rug and in time one part exposes to sunlight will be tanned than the other. So rug rotation will help in the even tan of the rug
  • Vacuum your rugs daily and if possible dust it with a duster lightly. Sand and dust might spoil or damage the threads of the rugs so constant and daily vacuum will help the carpet from heavy damage. Combing or shaking rugs like flokati rug and leather shag rug is best as these rugs should be handled carefully. Not all rugs can be vacuumed
  • Rugs should not be folded rather it should rolled and stored. When shifting rugs always place them on top of all the goods and do not put any weight on top of the rolled rug
  • While vacuuming just use the sucker with slow speed to remove the dust don't use any rotating blades as it will damage the carpet
  • Use  real steams to remove hard stains
  • If you want to store for long term use moth balls and wrap it in clean breathable cloth or material. Do not use plastic sheets to cover
  • Some rug corners will not lie flat in that case place a pile of books or a table leg for few days and this will set it right
