The Kitten and the Papa Cat

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets   Keywords: Kitty, cat, roles, playtime, bathtime, laughter

Well we have only had our kitten Smoochie for about 5 weeks now and watching the developing relationship between he and our 6 yo cat Jordan has been quite interesting and almost always entertaining.

From the first 5 days after we first brought Smoochie home.. all 1 3/4 lbs of him we feared Jordan might do him harm since he has been king of the house for so long. The first 5 days we kept them separated and gave them each their own space to get use to the change. Any time they spent together was supervised for Smoochie's safety since Jordan is about a 20 lb cat.

Well we got thru that and then allowed longer and longer periods of time when they could get use to each other. Soon the little one, Smoochie, wanted to play and so began the process of them becoming friends. After the friend stage we noticed Jordan leaving some of his food for him which use to be the highlight of his day. Then we noticed Jordan started to hold him down and bathe him. Smoochie puts up a feeble attempt to stop him and they usually end up playing. The latest thing we've noticed is Smoochie trying to bathe Jordan, lol, and that is just precious.

Well until next time.. grateful for the fun-filled time with the kitty and his adopted Papa.. smile.

Smoochie and Jordan

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets   Keywords: kitten, older, cat, Training, lost, sleep

Well it certainly has not been boring around here with Smoochie and Jordan learning how to interact with one another and praying that their relationship calms down nicely soon. It appears that Jordan has taught him how to groom himself nicely now as well as taught him who is the boss of the house. Jordan still doesn't feel so comfortable to lay around the house like he did all sprawled out and showing us how safe he felt as now he never knows which body part is going to be pounced on by Smoochie and nipped at. I hope Smoochie learns to calm down with him soon so Jordan can go back to his more relaxed mode.

At night after Jordan has his wet food, we have to put Smoochie in the guest room or he is all over Jordan's food. As soon as Jordan is done he is meowing or beating at the door for the little one to come down so it seems as though he wants the little one to finish what he has left. Smoochie is only too happy to oblige him but oh my gosh his breath is horrid once he does and his little belly pooches out. He now waits at night for Jordan to get his wet food, lol.

Smoochie adores hubby so once he gets home from work hubby is often seen sitting on his shoulder either at the computer or while hubby is walking around the house, Smoochie is riding around on his shoulder. He also leaps from the bed to the back of hubby's computer chair and climbs up his back regardless of whether he still has a shirt on! Misc Twice he made it to the top of his head where he just sat down and watched whatever tv show he had on or video game he was playing. He offers us hours of entertainment and work, lol, and then he just gives out and sleeps wherever he is.

I think Jordan is taking the Papa roll and watches out for him besides playing with him. They can be seen scampering or flying around the house often when the mood strikes them. It seems to have helped Jordan get more exercise that is for sure!

Well I was laid up for a few days with a stomach bug but I do feel a little better today and for that I am grateful!

Enjoy the moments in your day,
Aly

We have a new kitten :)

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets   Keywords: pets, kitten, tabby, smooches, Jordan, Mad

Well Saturday hubby and I went to look at a 8 week old kitten out in Apache Junction so it was quite a drive just to go and look at this kitten, but we didn't mind the ride. We knew from the add that this kitty had been left to die but this woman and her sister found this kitty and a few others and they nursed them back to health by bottle feeding them. Even her little children helped her to do this so they were all quite attached and asked if they could call once we took the kitty home. A very sweet family indeed.

Well since this little kitten has a tendency to come up and give you nose rubs and little kisses on the lips we have named him 'smoochie.' Since they had a dog and their were two other kitties they saved, Smoochie is very friendly, however, Jordan is just plain mad. The one time he came into the spare room where we are letting Smoochie get use to his new surroundings, Jordan ate his food, used his litter box. and then hissed at him.. Oh my such bad manners and letting Smoochie know he wasn't welcome.

Well Jordan has decided to take this out on hubby for some reason. He won't let him do all the things he use to do with him: play every morning and night, let him rub his belly, eat from his hand, etc. He is strictly giving him the cold shoulder. For some unknown reason he is not mad at me. Well we are hoping by weeks end he will calm down and know he is still the King of our jungle, lol. I know Smoochie will be good for Jordan to be more active, play more, and have a little buddy if he can get past his attitude. We are giving them each their own space this week but next week we start the integration process.. and hope that it goes well :)

Make your day a good one folks and may laughter lighten your hearts,
Aly

This is the most adorable video of Nora the Piano playing cat! I guess we will have to see if Jordan likes this activity. He likes hearing the sounds when he walks on the computer keyboards or on the fax machine so I'm thinking he might like dping this too :)

Well our cat, Mister Jordan is looking forward to Christmas~

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets   Keywords: cat, holidays, presents

Well as the Christmas holiday approaches I know Mister Jordan cat will get more excited as he gets to see new things put out for decorations to play with, and maybe even a present or two for him Happy.

Since we are not putting up a tree this year he won't be batting the ornaments off the tree and I'm sure that will be a minor disappointment to him but due to space restraints we think we will just put out our other decorations and maybe some lights around our windows.

Keep your doggies safe

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets   Keywords: doggies, safe, sugarless, treats

Keep those sugarless treats out of Fido's reach. Veterinarians warned on Friday that a commonly used sweetener might cause liver failure in dogs, and perhaps even kill them.

Their report in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association appears to strengthen the suspected link between the sugar substitute xylitol, thought to make dogs sick, and possible liver failure.

Xylitol, a naturally occurring product, is found in many sugar-free chewing gums, candies, baked goods and toothpastes.

Doggie Love

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets   Keywords: pets, love, miracles

Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact, she was just sure it was fatal. She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders.

The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable. Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day.

It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure. Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

If you see someone without a smile today give them one of yours!

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Well we finally brought our cat home

by: Buttercup2   Category: Pets

Mood: Glad he's here with us

Jordan has been with our friend Darleen for about 3 weeks now as we moved and got settled. He is out and about and surverying all his new surroundings. I'm sure during the night he will be in all the cupboards and on top of everything he can jump to checking everything out.

He adds so many laughs to each day that we were missing him terribly. He is very much a part of our family. All those who come and stay with us all miss him when they leave, lol. I hope they miss us as much, gol.

Well I guess the videos don't work here as Shel tried to help me get those running but we just couldn't do it. I hope things change soon. In the meantime, I will be checking out other blogging sites.

Hugs and Peace,
Aly
