Insomnia strikes again!

So I am up doing another load of clothes, packed another box of kitchen items and have a 'heat em up' bag on my back while I sit here trying to figure out all the things we need to accomplish in the next few days.

My brain won't shut down tonight.... so here I am again, blogging away my sleep!

I will keep trying.. wish me luck :)

Hugs,
Aly

I can't even describe how much we have to do tomorrow

Oy vey! We have to pick up my aunt early in the morning, drop off our cat Jordan for a few days while we get settled (he has asthma) and then more packing and cleaning, and then actually starting the move to our new home.

I get tired just thinking of it. Thank goodness hubby has 4 men helping him Saturday. By then we will be toast!

Hugs all as I'm not sure how soon my puter will be set up. Soon I hope as he knows I can't live without it... grin!

Hugs and Peaceful Thoughts..

I am beginning to wonder if people are color-challenged, lol

At least three times people have come to look at the furniture which is listed with the appropriate color description. One being cherrywood finish and the other a honey oat color. Now on several occasions the people have come to view these items.. they have said, "I didn't realize the color would be so light.. or dark, depending on who was saying it." Now folks, if you tell me something is cherrywood finish I am going to know it is light oak. If you tell me something is cherrywood finish I am going to know that the wood is darker in color as described.

Why don't people just say, " It is not what I am looking for," and be on their way instead of sounding as if they don't know their color schemes.

Oh well, that is my rant for today. I may not be done though, lmao.

I look like I'm moving and now I'm feeling even worse.

Praying I don't say something really ridiculous over the next several days.

Hugs always,
Aly

Here are some tips for preventing heat-related illness

The best defense is prevention. Here are some prevention tips:
  • Drink more fluids (nonalcoholic), regardless of your activity level. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. Warning: If your doctor generally limits the amount of fluid you drink or has you on water pills, ask him how much you should drink while the weather is hot.

  • Don’t drink liquids that contain caffeine, alcohol, or large amounts of sugar–these actually cause you to lose more body fluid. Also, avoid very cold drinks, because they can cause stomach cramps.

  • Stay indoors and, if at all possible, stay in an air-conditioned place. If your home does not have air conditioning, go to the shopping mall or public library–even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back into the heat. Call your local health department to see if there are any heat-relief shelters in your area.

  • Electric fans may provide comfort, but when the temperature is in the high 90s, fans will not prevent heat-related illness. Taking a cool shower or bath, or moving to an air-conditioned place is a much better way to cool off.

  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

  • NEVER leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle.

  • Although any one at any time can suffer from heat-related illness, some people are at greater risk than others. Check regularly on:

    • Infants and young children
    • People aged 65 or older
    • People who have a mental illness
    • Those who are physically ill, especially with heart disease or high blood pressure

  • Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Infants and young children, of course, need much more frequent watching.
If you must be out in the heat:
  • Limit your outdoor activity to morning and evening hours.

  • Cut down on exercise. If you must exercise, drink two to four glasses of cool, nonalcoholic fluids each hour.  A sports beverage can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat. Warning: If you are on a low-salt diet, talk with your doctor before drinking a sports beverage. Remember the warning in the first “tip” (above), too.

  • Try to rest often in shady areas.

  • Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat (also keeps you cooler) and sunglasses and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher (the most effective products say “broad spectrum” or “UVA/UVB protection” on their labels).

Convicted man admits to 48 murders

I think I have to stop reading the news until after this move. So much  of it is so horrible, shocking or heinous that I just can't take it all in now.

A man serving a life sentence in Colorado for murdering a teenage girl has claimed responsibility for as many as 48 slayings across the country dating back more than three decades, authorities said Thursday.

Robert Charles Browne, 53, told authorities the slayings occurred from 1970 until his arrest in 1995. He was in court Thursday to plead guilty to one of those killings — the death of another girl in Colorado in 1987.

Authorities so far have been able to corroborate his detailed claims in seven slayings — three in Louisiana, two in Texas, one in Arkansas and the two in Colorado, El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said.

He said Browne's claim of 48 murders could be credible.

"It's possible he's exaggerating, but I don't think you can conduct business assuming he's exaggerating," Maketa said. "We'll continue to pursue leads."

If Browne's claims prove true, he would be one of the most prolific killers in U.S. history.

Anti-smoking vaccine being tested

Doctors are testing a radical new way to help smokers quit: a shot that "immunizes" them against the nicotine rush that fuels their addiction.

I pray that this will work as so many have such a hard time breaking this addiction. Smoking robbed my dad of many years of his life and I still miss him today.

I will keep track of this story!

Great news for diabetics!

"People who ate a low-fat vegan diet, cutting out all meat and dairy, lowered their blood sugar more and lost more weight than people on a standard American Diabetes Association diet, researchers said on Thursday."

For the full story, go here: Vegan diet helps diabetics

Since hubby and I both have diabetes in our families histories, we need to pay attention to these things.

Peace folks,

Heat wave is costing many lives in California

"Corpses piled up at the morgue Thursday, and aid workers went door-to-door, checking in on elderly people in hopes of keeping the death toll from California's 12-day heat wave from rising.

California coroner's offices said the number of deaths possibly connected to the heat wave climbed to 90.

In Fresno County's morgue, the walk-in freezer was stuffed with bodies, with some piled on top of others, said Coroner Loralee Cervantes. With limited air conditioning, employees worked in sweltering heat as they investigated at least 22 possible heat-related deaths.

"It's never been like this in my years here," Cervantes said. "This is really tragic."

I have been so wrapped up in my own little world and its problems that I didn't realize that this too was going on. Shame on me.... my heart goes out to all the people that weren't/aren't prepared for this kind of heat.

In the desert, we know this is going to happen so in most cases this kind of problem does not exist except for the homeless... and perhaps some elderly who have no help from families. Isn't that amazing to you? In years gone by the elderly would have been revered and taken care of by their families no matter what they had to do. Now with families so fragmented, it is a matter of survival of the fittest, and keeping up with the Jones's and all the mounting bills.. to pay at some later point in time.

Sighing, over a lost generation of compassion.

Sweating from cleaning the stove and sinks and microwave and bathtub; glad to be taking a break.

Some people are coming over shortly to take a look at some of our furniture so I don't want to scare them away....

Hugs as always,

Aly

This day has been difficult for me

I have felt my 'aloneness' very much so today as I washed more clothes and packed more boxes. I could feel the tears on the verge of my eyelids and I just fought like the dickens to hold them back.

I realized how much I needed help today to continue this job. With my health situation as it is my energy depletes very quickly, but there is no time to stop now, and no time to feel sorry for myself.

With God's help, I plugged along and got alot done. I hope I can rest well tonight.

My adopted aunt is coming back on Friday I think so I know she will not only provide me with company, but with some help also. We have 4 guys coiming to help hubby do the actual moving on Saturday morning. Right now we are in limbo.

Tomorrow night we have two people coming over to look at our large computer desk and our queen size futon. We are hoping to sell both and to replace them with smaller, new pieces. Hopefully this will be the case.

Hugs and peace to all,
Aly

Rubber sidewalks on the rise

"Pounding the pavement is getting a little easier on people's knees in many cities around the country. For reasons of safety and ease of maintenance, Washington and dozens of other communities are installing rubber sidewalks made of ground-up tires.

The rubber squares are up to three times more expensive than concrete slabs but last longer, because tree roots and freezing weather won't crack them. That, in turn, could reduce the number of slip-and-fall lawsuits filed over uneven pavement.

The shock-absorbing surface also happens to be easier on the joints of joggers, and more forgiving when someone takes a spill.

And the rubber sidewalks are considered more environmentally friendly: They offer a way to recycle some of the estimated 290 million tires thrown out each year in the U.S., and they do not constrict tree roots the way concrete slabs do."

Given the number of times I've fallen and injured my body, I think this is a great idea!

Honesty is the best policy is rewarded

A homeless man who returned $21,000 worth of saving bonds he found in a trash bin is finding out how much honesty can pay off. He was awarded 4000 thousand dollars for his honesty.

Finally a feel-good story!

Thunder and Lightening, oh my!

The storm tonight is a beauty! It sounds like one helluva bowling ball game going on over us tonight, lol.

The lightening is also something to see here. You can see so clearly for miles that it is just magnificent to watch.

Well I've done too much. My back is talking big time!!!

Have a good evening everyone,

I guess we might have to EBAY our items for sale

We have some posted on a well known list online, but hardly anyone has fallen through with even coming to look at the items they say they are interested in so I think they will just have to go with us and place an add on Ebay once we get there.

What a hassle trying to sell furniture. It use to be so easy~

If I had my life to live over again

I would not have wasted so much time trying to make a relationship work that was just destined for failure and that sapped the very life out of my soul.

If I had my life to live over again I wouldn't  have been a 'people pleaser' so often forsaking what was really important to me.

If I had my life to live over again, I would have asked for more advice regarding financial management.

If I had to live my life over again, I would try to help others who were abused as children earlier in my life.

If I had my life to live over, I would take more chances, period!

Good morning all, and have a splendid day~

I must be getting oldddddddddddddddd

I can't read some of the darker blogs at all. I would have to get out a mega magnifier to try and read the type :(/

So when my tired eyes are weary, I just move on as I simply can't make it out. So sorry or I would leave a comment now and then.

I think I have finally calmed down over the scorpion and I have asked my cat Jordan to be more attentive and to stay ON DUTY!!!!

So, he curled up by my head for awhile, lol.

Have a good nite folks!

Hugs always,
Aly

Damned scorpion walked over my foot!

I was sitting here trying to relax, playing a game of spades and felt a tickle on my foot and thought it was the bottom of my dress. I looked down and saw the damned tail of a scorpion waltzing over my foot!

I'm a wreck. I had nightmares we had so many in this apartment last year. I have lived in AZ off an on for 14 years and had only seen 1 scorpion in a new house we lived in until we came here. Lucky us must be on top of a freaking nest, and the owners here don't give a damn when you call and report it. "Well we spray once a month and we don't want to kill all the shrubs!!!!" I can't wait to give a rating on this place once we move out of here. Saturday can't come soon enough for me.

Dammit I'm mad. Now' I'll be nervous again until we leave.

Hubby home sick with me today

We felt so awful we didn't get up until 1 pm. Unreal. Not doing much today, just little things that take no effort to speak of. He also had to cancel his second job tonight.

Even our cat Jordan got sick during the night :(.

Hopefully we are getting this out of the way so we can be fine for this weekend.

Take care everyone, and be well.

Aly

Here is a soldier

Here is a soldier stationed in Iraq, stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt (U.S. soil), fertilizer, and some grass seed so that he can have the sweet aroma, and feel the grass grow beneath his feet. When the men of the squadron have a mission that they are going on, they take turns walking through the grass and the American soil - to bring them good luck.

If you notice, he is even cutting the grass with a pair of a scissors. Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don't stop and think about the little things that we take for granted.

Upon receiving this, please say a prayer for our soldiers that give and give (and give up) so unselfishly for us.

With age, comes wisdom

Mood: grin

Ernie is 71 years old , and loves to fish. He was sitting in his boat the other day when he heard a voice say, "Pick me up."

He looked around and couldn't see any one. He thought he was dreaming when he heard the voice say again, "Pick me up." He looked in the water and there, floating on the top, was a frog.

The man said, "Are you talking to me?"

The frog said, "Yes, I'm talking to you. Pick me up. Then, kiss me and I'll turn into the most beautiful woman you have ever seen I'll then give you more sexual pleasure that you ever could have dreamed of."

The man looked at the frog for a short time, reached over, picked it up carefully, and placed it in his front breast pocket.

Then the frog said, "What, are you nuts? Didn't you hear what I said? I said kiss me and I will give you sexual pleasures like you have never had."

He opened his pocket, looked at the frog and said, "Nah, at my age I'd rather have a talking frog."

The survival of our democracy

"The ABA group, which includes a one-time
FBI director and former federal appeals court judge, said the president has overstepped his authority in attaching challenges to hundreds of new laws.

The attachments, known as bill-signing statements, say Bush reserves a right to revise, interpret or disregard measures on national security and constitutional grounds.

"This report raises serious concerns crucial to the survival of our democracy," said the ABA's president, Michael Greco. "If left unchecked, the president's practice does grave harm to the separation of powers doctrine, and the system of checks and balances that have sustained our democracy for more than two centuries."

Some congressional leaders had questioned the practice. The task force's recommendations, being released Monday in Washington, will be presented to the 410,000-member group next month at its annual meeting in Hawaii.

ABA policymakers will decide whether to denounce the statements and encourage a legal fight over them."
