Medical chart notes

Patient has left his white blood cells at another hospital.

The patient's past medical history has been remarkably insignificant with only a 40 pound weight gain in the past three days.

She slipped on the ice and apparently her legs went in separate directions in early December.

The patient left the hospital feeling much better except for her original complaints.

The patient had waffles for breakfast and anorexia for lunch.

The patient was in his usual state of good health until his airplane ran out of gas and crashed.

She is numb from her toes down.

The skin was moist and dry.

Occasional, constant, infrequent headaches.

Coming from Detroit, this man has no children.

Patient was alert and unresponsive.

When she fainted, her eyes rolled around the room

Disappointing news

Hubby did not get the Managers's position this time around. Another manager from a scaled down department was given the job. While he understands that, he and I are a bit disappointed as he has worked so hard to work his way into this position.

Hopefully by the next time around they will make a different decion!

A little brain teaser..

A 30 year old man married a 25 year old woman. She died at age 50 and her husband was so devastated that he cried for years. Ten years after he stopped crying, he died. If he had lived to be 80, how many years was he a widower?

Many people are moving out of big cities...

Northeasterners are moving South and West. West Coast residents are moving inland. Midwesterners are chasing better job markets. And just about everywhere, people are escaping to the outer suburbs, also known as exurbs.

"It's a case of middle class flight, a flight for housing affordability," said William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. "But it's not just white middle class flight, it's Hispanics and blacks, too."

The states that attracted the most new residents: Florida, Arizona and Nevada. The states that lost the most: New York, California and Illinois.

Among the 25 largest metropolitan areas, 18 had more people move out than move in from 2000 to 2004. New York, Los Angeles and Chicago — the three biggest metropolitan areas — lost the most residents to domestic moves. The New York metropolitan area had a net loss of more than 210,000 residents a year from 2000 to 2004.

Richard Florida, a professor of public policy at George Mason University, said smaller, wealthier households are replacing larger families in many big metropolitan areas.

That drives up housing prices even as the population shrinks, chasing away even more members of the middle class.

"Because they are bidding up prices, they are forcing some people out to the exurbs and the fringe," Florida said. "Other people are forced to make moves in response to that. I don't have any sense of this abating."

The metropolitan area that attracted the most new residents was Riverside, Calif., which has been siphoning residents from Los Angeles for years. The Riverside area, which includes San Bernardino and Ontario, had a net gain of 81,000 people a year from 2000 to 2004.

Riverside has grown to become the 13th largest metropolitan area in the nation. It's a short drive to several mountain ranges, and it's within driving distance of the beach. Locally, it is known as the Inland Empire.

"When you look at housing prices in Southern California, along the beaches and coastlines, you're able to obtain a very large home for a much lower price" in Riverside, said Cindy Roth, president and CEO of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce.

Homes in Riverside aren't cheap. The median price — the point at which half cost more and half cost less — was 374,200 in 2005. But they are less expensive than Los Angeles, where the median price was 529,000.

Other areas that attracted a lot of new residents also have relatively inexpensive homes, even if they are not the cheapest in the country. Phoenix, Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla., Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth round out the top five metropolitan areas.

Census Bureau: http://www.census.gov

The prices for  homes in the Phoenix area went crazy here during the last year with the influx of people from all over the US.

Animal sanctuary pic

Hira Punjabi

On a frigid winter morning at India's Tal Chappar animal sanctuary, Punjabi came upon two male blackbucks battling for dominance against a glowing backdrop of dust and light. The graceful animals, once overhunted, can now be seen in herds throughout India. Punjabi made the photograph with a 500mm telephoto lens.

Mature pharmacology

Mood: Thanks tee, couldn't resist posting this one.. lol

In Pharmacology, all drugs have two names, a trade name and generic name. For example, the trade name of Tylenol also has a generic name of Acetaminophen. Aleve is also called Naproxen. Amoxil is also call Amoxicillin and Advil is also called Ibuprofen.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of “cocktails”, “highballs” and just a good old-fashioned “stiff drink.” Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: “MOUNT & DO”

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer’s research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

Conflict resolution in the workplace?

I'm sure many have had some kind of conflict arise in their workplace. What are some of the practices used at your workplace to diffuse a situation between employees and to make the workgroup more cohesive as a team without singling out one person as the scapegoat?

Please give some responses here. This is an important issue.

Thanks,
Aly

Ten Commandments monument can stay

A Ten Commandments monument that has stood on the courthouse lawn for almost 50 years does not promote religion and can remain in place, a federal judge ruled.

U.S. District Judge James Carr said Tuesday that the monument can stay because the motives for placing it outside the Lucas County courthouse were secular and not an endorsement of a specific belief.

Raised eyebrows over this entire issue. In a country where morals have declined at an alarming rate, it seems to indicate to this humble person, that instead of being less moral, we need to be more moral in our decision making processes and to pass those ideals on to our children.

I realize this is just my humble opinion.

A friend of ours was just taken by a credit card scam

He was contacted by telephone and informed that he qualified for a five thousand dollar credit card from Financial Freedom. This company has 58 entried posted at rip off report as being a very large scam.

It is simply credit for a catalog company that charges outrageous fees and not a credit card like Visa or Mastercard at all.

We have informed him of this information and advised him to close his checking account immediately before they start withdrawing any of the 500 hundred dollards they wanted upfront.

He had already given them his checking account information as well as his social security number. People HAVE to take heed in this climate of fraud that they should not do this over the phone, especially with a company they have never heard of before~

Melissa Etheridge and partner Tammy Michaels are expecting twins

"We are thrilled to announce that Tammy is pregnant, and expecting our twins sometime around this fall," they said in a statement. "To answer the obvious question: we used an anonymous donor from a (sperm) bank."

Etheridge, 44, and Michaels, 31, held a commitment ceremony in 2003. The Grammy-winning singer has two children from her relationship with former partner Julie Cypher: daughter Bailey Jean and son Beckett. Cypher had the children through artificial insemination using a sperm donation from rock legend David Crosby.

Tom and Katie's baby girl, Suri has arrived

The Tomkitten has arrived.  Tom Cruise and  Katie Holmes, the high-profile pair dubbed TomKat by the media, had a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson. The baby, named Suri, weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 inches long, he said.

"Both mother and daughter are doing well," Robinson said in a prepared statement.

The name Suri has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," the statement said.

The baby was born in Los Angeles but the exact location was not disclosed.

It's the first child for Holmes, 27. Cruise, 43, has an adopted daughter and son from his marriage to  Nicole Kidman.

One week til vacation

It doesn't seem possible that next week we'll be on a plane heading to CT. I know we are both so looking forward to seeing everyone and being with family :)

So now all the pre-vacation prep begins with packing, mail, rent, and all the other assorted details to take care of beforehand. Plus making sure the house is in order so we don't come back to a messy house.

Shortly after getting back we have to start looking for a new place to live. That is always so stressful so we need to take full advantage of the two weeks away and really relax.

Well I would be sleeping I suppose, but I took a 3 hour nap earlier. I just couldn't stay awake.

Have a good day tomorrow folks~

Hugs and Peace,

President won't rule out nuclear attack on Iran

Mood: shaking my head in disbelief

President Bush refused on Tuesday to rule out nuclear strikes against  Iran if diplomacy fails to curb the Islamic Republic's atomic ambitions.

Iran, which says its nuclear program is purely peaceful, told world powers it would pursue atomic technology, whatever they decide at a meeting in Moscow later in the day.

Bush said in Washington he would discuss Iran's nuclear activities with China's President  Hu Jintao this week and avoided ruling out nuclear retaliation if diplomatic efforts fail.

Asked if options included planning for a nuclear strike, Bush replied: "All options are on the table. We want to solve this issue diplomatically and we're working hard to do so."

Speculation about a U.S. attack has mounted since a report in New Yorker magazine said this month that Washington was mulling the option of using tactical nuclear weapons to knock out Iran's subterranean nuclear sites.

When and where does this all end?

Cleaning day today

We had company over last night for our usual Monday night watching of "24." They definitely needed it to be a 2 hour special last night, lol! Knowing we have to wait an entire week to see what is next is almost too much to bear, grin :)

So while changing the bed today,I managed to hurt my right shoulder. It happens to be the one I broke 2 years ago. All I did was lift the end of the bed to tuck the sheet in and now its sore as hell!

Later a phone interview with my atty regarding my SSD claim. I always feel like less then a human being after going over my medical history and problems... sigh.

Well I hope everyone is having a good day, and I'll check in later...

Hugs and Peace,
Aly
