Lowest Price Acer AO532h-2588 10.1-Inch Onyx Blue Netbook

Acer AO532h-2588 10.1-Inch Onyx Blue Netbook - Up To 8 Hours Of Battery Life

I like everything about it except that it came with Windows 7 Starter edition. I thought it would enough for me since it's mainly for traveling, but it doesn't allow you to change some basic things like the desktop background, etc. You have to pay another $79 to upgrade to Windows 7 Premium. It is kind of a sneaky way to make the netbook cheaper, but it is a little frustrating to be unable to do things you are used to doing for free. Other than that, the netbook is great. The 10.1" screen is so much easier to view than the 8.3". It's a great size to take anywhere and the battery lasts a long time. I would buy it again, but I'd be happier with the full version of Windows XP or Vista. It is just the right size. The keyboard is easy to use. Plus, it works great connected to a monitor for times that you want a larger screen. I would but it again, but I wish I would have paid attention to Windows 7 Starter.Acer AO532h 2588 Blue Netbook Windows 7 Starter, More Reviews!

Amazing little booger

This netbook just amazes me. Compared to Asus and Samsung netbooks that I have owned it is the clear winner based on the fact that I am carrying it with me 24/7, literally putting it next to the bed when I get in. Added the extra ram (now at 2gb) and upgraded to Windows Home Premium. The unit is lightening fast and the keyboard is easy to adapt to. At under 3 pounds it is almost unnoticeable when carrying all day in my backpack, with my verizon myhotspot wifi device I can whip out the book and connect easily and conveniently anywhere.

The only negatives I can see so far is the lack of bluetooth connectivity but I had to return a Samsung netbook due to it losing the bluetooth and wifi connections after about an hour of surfing. Also there are no recovery discs and the user needs to burn them themselves, one for system (2 discs needed) and one for the drivers (one disc needed). Having owned Acer products before I was prepared for this and had ordered an external dvd drive along with the netbook to create them before setting up and using the unit.

I have seen comments about the screen size. Yes it is small but the clarity on the Acer is the sharpest and brightest I have seen. As a person with "coke bottle" glasses I have no problems seeing the screen.

All in all a good netbook but not a laptop. I do not game and use it only for surfing, email and music on the go (along with surfing in bed using an attached usb light). It is just what the doctor ordered for my needs.

Cheapest Acer AOD250-1838 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - Up To 9 Hours Of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

Acer Aspire Netbook

Nothing really to add to the many positive reviews I have read. I followed suggestions to remove one or two pre-installed programs, esp. the trial offer for virus/security and have opted for Microsoft Security Essentials, which seems to work so far, without the very slow start-up associated with other applications of this type. I have installed 'Open Office' instead of the MS Office trial - no major issues so far. Some slide builds seem a little slower than P*w*rp**nt - have not determined whether it's the application or the machine.
Replaced the memory chip with 2GB - easy once I worked out where the chip was located and how to unclip it (there are three 'trapdoors' and it was the last place I looked ...). Performance is decent, wireless card works throughout our home with no problem except occasional reluctance to find my Airport Express hub, for use with iTunes. Keyboard OK - I am not a 'touch' typist, so it does not slow me down appreciably. Battery life very good - certainly would reach nine hours with only light wireless use. With wireless I get 7 hours.
The only somewhat annoying feature is the touchpad - I don't like these much in any case, but this one occasionally is excessively sensitive and other times needs some persuasion to work, but I suspect that this may be down to the operator, rather than the machine.
In short, an excellent little machine.

Great gift for someone looking for a simple use computer

I got this for my wife as a gift. It's a nice lightweight machine. My complains are it comes with a lot of shovelware (unnecessary programs that hog resources.) Some examples of this were both Norton and McAfee were installed. I replaced those with Windows Essentials. There were some games, some acer utilities, adobe reader (i prefer foxit reader.) I removed all of that and the machine was much snappier. It wouldn't have been reasonable to expect a beginner user to do that, so if you're buying this for someone and you have some computer know how, you should boot it first to get it cleaned up to run best. Windows 7 starter is absolutely fine. The primary limitations are the wallpaper not being able to change and file sharing is minimalistic. I had no problems connecting this to a wireless printer / scanner, connecting to multiple wireless networks. I used google chrome to play netflix and hulu and they both displayed without skips or poor rendering. Google docs worked just fine. The screen and the mouse take a little getting used to but nothing that cannot be overcome.

Acer AOD250-1689 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up To 9 Hours Of Battery Life

I just own this netbook for two days, and so far I'm satisfied with it. This is not a notebook, keep in mind, so bear with the tiny screen and slow response... still it works very well even for work.

So far, I have tested :
- 10.1" inch screen is rather small, but it's the standard size for netbook
- Keyboard is perfect for my hands, I still can type fairly fast
- Firefox, IE, YIM, Adobe Reader, all works without problem. I didn't want to install too many applications though... just in case
- Wi-Fi runs without problem in every corners of my house
- Bluetooth is fine, just tested it with my cellphone
- Speaker is not too loud, but it's fine
- Webcam is fine
- Battery last about 6 hoursAcer AOD250 1689 White Netbook, More Reviews!

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1001P-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up To 11 Hours Of Battery Life

Have had the new Asus 1001p-p for about a week. Loaded a 2 GB memory chip in it, updated the Bios, and everything is working great. Battery isn't quite up to full potential but I have only fully charged it once. I'd recommend this to anyone interesting in a netbook. The hard drive is partitioned into four parts (two hidden). The system recovery is put on one of the hidden partitions for easy recovery if needed. I would definitely get the 250GB hard drive because of the partitioning.ASUS Eee PC 1001P PU17 BK Windows 7 Starter, More Reviews!

Gateway LT2118u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Over 10 Hours Of Battery Life

The Gateway LT2118u has all the specifications mentioned in the product page. I only wish that it had built-in bluetooth. The screen collects dust easily. No other complaints. One of the better looking netbooks out there compared to other brands. The battery life came close to 10 hours of net surfing and word processing. Definitely a best buy versus Dell and HP/Compaq.Gateway LT2118u Red Netbook Windows 7 Starter, More Reviews!

Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BN 10.1-Inch Java Brown Netbook - 11 Hours Of Battery Life

Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BN 10.1-Inch Java Brown Netbook - 11 Hours Of Battery Life

I've been using this for about a month now, and I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase. It's a fantastic netbook: Windows 7 runs smooth and fast, the chiclet keyboard is roomy and comfortable, and all the other major elements are polished and functional.

My issue with the NB305, is the battery life, not so much while the computer is in use, but when it is hibernating or sleeping. When you're using it, the battery lasts a long time especially in so-called "eco mode" which adjusts the power settings automatically for maximum battery life, as opposed to maximum performance. Strangely, the issue I have with the battery, which is my only real gripe about the NB305 at all, is that it seems to drain inordinately large amounts of battery while it is in standby. If you simply close the screen when you are done with any given session, which I generally do, you'll find the battery significantly drained if you open it back up a couple hours later. Even in hibernate, it seems to eat power. You have to go through shut down before packing it up, and then you will find it lasts much longer.

Obviously, this isn't a deal-breaker, it just requires you to adopt that new (and probably good) habit of turning everything off before packing it up. Startup is quick anyway, generally less than two minutes, so it hasn't been a huge problem. I still recommend this Toshiba, and don't regret my decision at all.

HP Mini 110-1127NR 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up To 8 Hours Of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

HP Mini 110-1127NR 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up To 8 Hours Of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

The lights are ridiculously bright. At night they light up an entire room. If you're using the netbook in such a way that you can see them at all (often or always), you'll wind up being moderately perturbed as they are as bad as glare on a TV. If you're using the netbook on your chest at night, forget it. I started by using electrical tape to shield all four of them, which was the easier option instead of painting JB Weld or something similar onto them. Now, the tape has fallen off, I'm snowed in, I don't have any more, and don't have JB Weld with me, so the best I can do is stress how much of a failure they are. They leave spots on your eyes. Terrible. I want to dig them out with a knife, but they are integrated with the power button, so that doesn't seem advisable. Drilling is an option. My novatel verizon card is pretty bad too, so I taped it down also. Together they form the most grandiose light-polluting duo you can imagine from a 10" electronic that doesn't need the ligths in the first place.

Fix it HP. The lights are incredibly redundant. Why do I need a power light to tell me the computer is ON??? It's on. You can hear it, see it, feel it, and smell it if you try hard enough. And why do I need a light to tell me the friggin wireless is on? It's in the taskbar. And even if these were deemed essential, why make them as accomodating as staring at a keychain led flashlight? They need to be the faintest LED's possible IMO. Additionally they're draining battery unnecessarily.

The rest of the computer is good and practical. Windows registry does seem to be beginning it's normal degredation causing strange things to happen, but I can't blame HP. The price is right.HP Mini 110 1127NR Pink Netbook, More Reviews!

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325WH 10.1-Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours Of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325WH 10.1-Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours Of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

This is a great portable computer to take on the road. It is small but well designed and looks great. I only wish I had ordered the 250 Gb model rather than the one with 160 Gb and the webcam. I didn't know there was another model with the larger HD and I never use a webcam, but shame on me. I upgraded to 2 Gb memory and it runs fine. The operating system (Win 7) is slow on this netbook and Explorer takes a while to display folders and files. I am not sure why, but I have a dual core with 8 Gb on my desktop and it is much faster. Other than that I can't complain.

I use mine for school and e-mail/web surfing and have never had a problem. I would highly recommend the Toshiba pouch because it looks good and fits like a glove. I put mine in my backpack and it takes quite a beating in the protective pouch.

One thing I do not believe is the supposed 9 hour battery life. No way. Mine went low in 2 1/2 hours while opening/reading/closing about 30 word docs. I am not sure where they got the 9 hour claim but maybe if you have only 1 doc opened and are just reading it then maybe 9 hours is achievable, but if you are doing some frequent IO work, the battery life is easily cut by 2/3. BUT, as far as netbooks go, this is the best I have seen or read about. A definate two thumbs up.Toshiba Mini NB205 N325WH White Netbook, More Reviews!
