More Realism in Games

At the E3 games conference in Los Angeles, the Nintendo showed off its Wii MotionPlus, which it promised would add more realism and depth to games, BBC reports.

The company has sold already more than 10 million Wii consoles and 70 million DS handheld machines worldwide. Rival Sony has announced a larger capacity version of its PlayStation 3.

At a later press conference, Sony unveiled a film download service and an 80-gigabyte hard drive version of PS3 for gamers in North America. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said innovation was key for the company.

"Even if it is revolutionary sooner or later, people become tired of a new form of entertainment," Iwata said.

Games Help You Multi-Task.

The fact is computer games help you multi-task. The modern world is full of non-stop action — instant messaging, e-mail, video games, and it all seems to be happening at once. If you're over 30, you've probably wondered why younger people aren't overwhelmed by all this stimulation. But their brains are simply trained to handle it. Sustained practice at multi-tasking increases one's ability to pay attention to many things at the same time. A major source of practice is playing action video games — you know, the kind most parents hate, where the aim is to shoot as many enemies as possible before they shoot you.

These games require players to distribute attention across the screen and to quickly detect and react to events. In one study, college students who played action games regularly processed information more quickly, could track more objects at once, and had better task-switching abilities.

So, allowing your children to play computer games may not be such a bad...

Online Gaming Babies.

Born September 27, 2007, Victoria has not become the first baby attributed to Microsoft online gaming service. That honor goes to Noah James Osmer Pitts, if you don’t know yet, he was born in January of 2005. Incidentally, Noah's parents met while playing Ghost Recon: Island Thunder - another Tom Clancy game.

But when little Victoria Marie Figueroa grows up and asks her parents how they met, I don’t think she will be shocked to find out they were shooting at online gaming. I’m sure there will be many game born kids in the future.

"Funny thing is, we hated each other at first, but somehow ended up falling in love, said Stacy. "I was from Georgia and he was from the Bronx. On a leap of faith we met, and we have been together ever since. If it wasn't for Xbox LIVE, our paths would have never crossed."

Nokia's new phone is causing quite a stir.

When we look at the mobile phone market in the UK we can see that online sales have been slow to take off. This is partly because of the confusing element surrounding cashback offers and a string of companies going into liquidation. If you are looking to compare mobile phone deals why not head on over to Best Mobile Contracts. They compare lots of reputable online retailers and have over 29,000 deals to look at on their site. A popular handset will surely be the Nokia N96 . This handset comes with a larger display than the Nokia N95 and will also have digital TV tuner built in to boot. We reckon this handset will outsell the Nokia N95 eventually. Watch out for it when it is finally released later this year. The Samsung f490 is another handset that is looking increasingly sophisticated. It seems that the mobile phone manufacturers can't stop releasing touchscreen phones. They are great if you like that sort of thing, but personally I still prefer touching the buttons, I find it much easier.

Games Developed by Players.

Microsoft Corp. announced Xbox 360 video games developed by players will be available for download through the console's online service. The new service will double the size of the Xbox 360 game library, to 1,000 games within a year of its launch, the company said.
Additionally game developers will be able to build games for the software maker's Zune digital media players.

"The time has come for the games industry to open its doors to all game creators, enabling anyone to share their creations with the world," John Schappert, a vice president of gaming at Microsoft, told an audience of about 6,000 game developers at a San Francisco conference.

Microsoft also said it will give students free access to its XNA Game Studio 2.0, its video game development program.

For All to Fly Along on Space Missions.

Nasa is going to build a realistic training environment BBC reports. The US space agency is exploring the possibility of developing a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game for the inspiring the next generation of Nasa employees. The virtual world would be aimed at students and would "simulate real Nasa engineering and science missions".

"We at Nasa are working hard to create opportunities for what I might call participatory exploration," the director of the project, Simon Worden, has said.

"We are looking at how this island can be a portal for all to fly along on space missions," he told delegates at the National Space Society's (NSS) conference last year.

"When the next people step onto the surface of the Moon in a little over a decade, your avatar could be with them," he said.
Other organisations such as the US armed forces already use online gaming as a recruitment tool".

Best Games 2007.

I’d like to answer those who love to play with mobile phone games: which games by your independent opinion are the best in 2007? Because the year 2007 has proven itself a real worthy year for both mobile phone and mobile gaming industry, both for its developers and customers so far. Such games as World Series of Poker: Pro Challenge, Townsmen 4, Real Football 2007 (3D), The Fast and the Furious Fugitive (3D) or Resident Evil: The Missions (3D) really enjoy world wide popularity. But could it be called the best of the 2007?

Each of us has his own preferences in such interesting deals as game. The gaming community must be high up the list of best candidates. As to me I prefer Mobile Poker, which lets to play live poker, with live people, on own cell phone. But I’m not sure my choice is the best to everyone. What is your opinion?

Mobile Games Class.

Which the class of mobile games do you prefer to play?
There are wide choice among such classes as Action, Adventure, Arcade, Sports, Strategy, Shoot 'em up, Racing, Fighting, RPG, 2D, Music game, Celerity. As to me I love Stratey. For example "Warship Galaxy " where, being planet leader, I have to lead the warship group to fight with other planets and to get the final success. A lot of enemy space fighters and battle planes will stand in my way trying to prevent my state-of-the-art ship from infiltrating into enemy's rear and accomplishing my mission. Among the computer's games I choose Age of Impair.

By the way Nokia has been talking up the prospects for its mobile gaming phone, the N-Gage, as it goes on sale BBC reported. The N-Gage is designed to compete with Nintendo's GameBoy, which dominates the portable gaming market. Games on mobile phones are expected to be big business, with some estimating that people will be spending more than...

Mobile Phone Gamers.

"Whether it's using location-based services to get driving directions, listening to streaming music or watching live TV, consumers are finding that the mobile phone is the one item they depend on most to stay connected and entertained," said Jeff Hallock, vice president of product marketing and strategy for Sprint, based in Overland Park, Kan.

One-third of respondents -- 33 percent -- said they want to play games on their phones. Those who currently do play games on their phones shared some interesting insight into their gaming habits. Fifty-seven percent claim to have played games in the doctor's office, 52 percent while commuting on the bus, train or subway, 37 percent while at the airport and nearly one-third of gamers -- 32 percent -- sheepishly admit to using the bathroom as a game room.

"Sprint continues to see a strong interest in mobile games from both casual gamers and active gamers - and some are complete fanatics about it," said Hallock. "For...

Snakes on a Phone

When I bought my cell phone, it had some games installed on it. Game-geek that I am, I had to check it out...

The first game I played was called Snake Extreme 2 , and it was actually better than I expected. I started with the basic level.

No matter what level you play, some things don't change. You're using the keypad to move a snake around the screen, eating bits of food. Everytime the snake eats, a new bit of food appears somewhere else. The games ends if the snake bites himself.

Sounds too simple, right? Well, not exactly. The snake gets longer with every bite of food. Eventually, he'll get too long for the player (that's you!) to keep track of, and that's when he eats his own tail. Until then, however, it can be a blast.

Periodically, an piece of bonus food will appear; if it does, try to eat if first, since it's worth a lot of points (regular food is only worth 1 point per piece); however, the bonuses disappear quickly, so get...

New KH1600 slider handset from LG.

LG Company is going to release it’s new KH1600 slider handset in the near future. The expected device will be with very little information shed on its specifications. So far we know that the main focus is on its WCDMA receiver that can purportedly connect in more than 120 countries.

If you look at it differently, that claim could mean HSDPA, finally arriving in North America in some other incarnation. Features include a front-mounted video camera and large-buttoned keypads. The LG KH1600 is tipped to retail for approximately $328.
