Microsoft Corp. announced Xbox 360 video games developed by players will be available for download through the console's online service. The new service will double the size of the Xbox 360 game library, to 1,000 games within a year of its launch, the company said.
Additionally game developers will be able to build games for the software maker's Zune digital media players.

"The time has come for the games industry to open its doors to all game creators, enabling anyone to share their creations with the world," John Schappert, a vice president of gaming at Microsoft, told an audience of about 6,000 game developers at a San Francisco conference.

Microsoft also said it will give students free access to its XNA Game Studio 2.0, its video game development program.

Nasa is going to build a realistic training environment BBC reports. The US space agency is exploring the possibility of developing a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game for the inspiring the next generation of Nasa employees. The virtual world would be aimed at students and would "simulate real Nasa engineering and science missions".

"We at Nasa are working hard to create opportunities for what I might call participatory exploration," the director of the project, Simon Worden, has said.

"We are looking at how this island can be a portal for all to fly along on space missions," he told delegates at the National Space Society's (NSS) conference last year.

"When the next people step onto the surface of the Moon in a little over a decade, your avatar could be with them," he said.
Other organisations such as the US armed forces already use online gaming as a recruitment tool".

I’d like to answer those who love to play with mobile phone games: which games by your independent opinion are the best in 2007? Because the year 2007 has proven itself a real worthy year for both mobile phone and mobile gaming industry, both for its developers and customers so far. Such games as World Series of Poker: Pro Challenge, Townsmen 4, Real Football 2007 (3D), The Fast and the Furious Fugitive (3D) or Resident Evil: The Missions (3D) really enjoy world wide popularity. But could it be called the best of the 2007?

Each of us has his own preferences in such interesting deals as game. The gaming community must be high up the list of best candidates. As to me I prefer Mobile Poker, which lets to play live poker, with live people, on own cell phone. But I’m not sure my choice is the best to everyone. What is your opinion?

Which the class of mobile games do you prefer to play?
There are wide choice among such classes as  Action,  Adventure,  Arcade,  Sports,  Strategy,  Shoot 'em up, Racing, Fighting,  RPG,  2D,  Music game,  Celerity. As to me I love Stratey. For example "Warship Galaxy " where, being planet leader, I have to lead the warship group to fight with other planets and to  get the final success. A lot of enemy space fighters and battle planes will stand in my way trying to prevent my state-of-the-art ship from infiltrating into enemy's rear and accomplishing my mission. Among the computer's games I choose Age of Impair.

 By the way Nokia has been talking up the prospects for its mobile gaming phone, the N-Gage, as it goes on sale BBC reported. The N-Gage is designed to compete with Nintendo's GameBoy, which dominates the portable gaming market. Games on mobile phones are expected to be big business, with some estimating that people will be spending more than $3bn annually by the year 2007.

"Whether it's using location-based services to get driving directions, listening to streaming music or watching live TV, consumers are finding that the mobile phone is the one item they depend on most to stay connected and entertained," said Jeff Hallock, vice president of product marketing and strategy for Sprint, based in Overland Park, Kan.

One-third of respondents -- 33 percent -- said they want to play games on their phones. Those who currently do play games on their phones shared some interesting insight into their gaming habits. Fifty-seven percent claim to have played games in the doctor's office, 52 percent while commuting on the bus, train or subway, 37 percent while at the airport and nearly one-third of gamers -- 32 percent -- sheepishly admit to using the bathroom as a game room.

"Sprint continues to see a strong interest in mobile games from both casual gamers and active gamers - and some are complete fanatics about it," said Hallock. "For example, one customer has played Bejeweled Multiplayer by Jamdat more than 40,000 times - that's almost 2,000 hours of game play!"
