Microsoft Corp. announced Xbox 360 video games developed by players will be available for download through the console's online service. The new service will double the size of the Xbox 360 game library, to 1,000 games within a year of its launch, the company said.

"The time has come for the games industry to open its doors to all game creators, enabling anyone to share their creations with the world," John Schappert, a vice president of gaming at Microsoft, told an audience of about 6,000 game developers at a San Francisco conference.

Microsoft also said it will give students free access to its XNA Game Studio 2.0, its video game development program.

Nasa is going to build a realistic training environment BBC reports. The US space agency is exploring the possibility of developing a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game for the inspiring the next generation of Nasa employees. The virtual world would be aimed at students and would "simulate real Nasa engineering and science missions".

"We at Nasa are working hard to create opportunities for what I might call participatory exploration," the director of the project, Simon Worden, has said.

"We are looking at how this island can be a portal for all to fly along on space missions," he told delegates at the National Space Society's (NSS) conference last year.

"When the next people step onto the surface of the Moon in a little over a decade, your avatar could be with them," he said.
Other organisations such as the US armed forces already use online gaming as a recruitment tool".

I’d like to answer those who love to play with mobile phone games: which games by your independent opinion are the best in 2007? Because the year 2007 has proven itself a real worthy year for both mobile phone and mobile gaming industry, both for its developers and customers so far. Such games as World Series of Poker: Pro Challenge, Townsmen 4, Real Football 2007 (3D), The Fast and the Furious Fugitive (3D) or Resident Evil: The Missions (3D) really enjoy world wide popularity. But could it be called the best of the 2007?

 

Each of us has his own preferences in such interesting deals as game. The gaming community must be high up the list of best candidates. As to me I prefer Mobile Poker, which lets to play live poker, with live people, on own cell phone. But I’m not sure my choice is the best to everyone. What is your opinion?

Which the class of mobile games do you prefer to play?
There are wide choice among such classes as  Action,  Adventure,  Arcade,  Sports,  Strategy,  Shoot 'em up, Racing, Fighting,  RPG,  2D,  Music game,  Celerity. As to me I love Stratey. For example "Warship Galaxy " where, being planet leader, I have to lead the warship group to fight with other planets and to  get the final success. A lot of enemy space fighters and battle planes will stand in my way trying to prevent my state-of-the-art ship from infiltrating into enemy's rear and accomplishing my mission. Among the computer's games I choose Age of Impair.

"Sprint continues to see a strong interest in mobile games from both casual gamers and active gamers - and some are complete fanatics about it," said Hallock. "For example, one customer has played Bejeweled Multiplayer by Jamdat more than 40,000 times - that's almost 2,000 hours of game play!"

When I bought my cell phone, it had some games installed on it.  Game-geek that I am, I had to check it out...

The first game I played was called Snake Extreme 2, and it was actually better than I expected.  I started with the basic level.

No matter what level you play, some things don't change.  You're using the keypad to move a snake around the screen, eating bits of food.  Everytime the snake eats, a new bit of food appears somewhere else.  The games ends if the snake bites himself.

Sounds too simple, right?  Well, not exactly.  The snake gets longer with every bite of food.  Eventually, he'll get too long for the player (that's you!) to keep track of, and that's when he eats his own tail.  Until then, however, it can be a blast.

Periodically, an piece of bonus food will appear; if it does, try to eat if first, since it's worth a lot of points (regular food is only worth 1 point per piece); however, the bonuses disappear quickly, so get too upset if you can't snatch it up in time.  Also, if the snake is very long, it can take awhile to maneuver around itself to even reach the food.

That maneuvering is where the fun is, though, especially if you're playing the higher levels, or the maze options.  The snake can't go through walls, and you toggle the "wraparound" feature on and off before each game.  Personally, I like it off, making the edges of the screen one big wall.  As the snake gets longer, it's pretty fun to watch him coil around as you try to avoid him biting himself.
