New Beijing great Olympics

  • On February 1, 2005, BOCOG President Liu Qi wrote two letters respectively to IOC President Jacque Rogge and IOC Honorable President for Life Juan Samaranch to extend greetings to them on the occasion of the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year. According to Chinese tradition, the Year of Rooster will begin on February 9, 2005. The letters were published in the local magazine Civilisation on February 1, 2005.

  •   We are delighted to learn that you will contribute a foreword for The Olympics and China which will be published soon by the Civilization magazine. I would take this opportunity to express, on behalf of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and also in my own name, our sincere gratitude to you.
  •   On August 29, 2004, you handed us the Olympic Flag. As we have entered the period for the Beijing Olympic Games, the world pay more attention to Beijing and China, and the preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games has also entered a key stage. We fully understand that we have a great opportunity and heavy responsibilities ahead to carry out this lofty mission. In line with the three concepts of “Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and People’s Olympics”, we are now doing our best to open our minds, employ all means available, bring all our advantages into full play and push forward the work in various functional areas like Venue Construction, Marketing, Competition Organization, Communications, Games Services and Security, etc.. All these programs have been so far in good progress.
  •   To hold an outstanding Olympic Games with unique features, we will continue to improve exchanges and cooperation with the International Olympic Committee, International Sports Federations and all members of the Olympic Family. We will learn from the successful experience of previous Olympic Games and make efforts to improve our work for the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games. With strong support from the Chinese central government as well as wide participation from people of all walks of life, we are confident that the 2008 Olympic Games will be held as a grand gathering to carry forward the Olympic spirit, to promote world peace and strengthen friendship among the participating countries and regions. A brand new Beijing with great charm of the traditional Chinese culture and full of modern vitality will be presented to the whole world.
  •   In the past few years, you have consistently attached importance and given support to Beijing in its preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. You have paid two successive visits to China and made valuable suggestions to us. We sincerely hope that you will continue to give us full support in our preparation for and holding of the 2008 Olympic Games, and provide your invaluable advice and assistance for us in our efforts to make the 2008 Olympic Games a great success.
